Critical Reading Project Sexual and Asexual Reproduction Grado 8o.

The document outlines a critical reading project for eighth-grade students focused on sexual and asexual reproduction. It includes pre-reading predictions, vocabulary definitions, and comprehension questions to engage students in understanding the differences between the two types of reproduction. The text explains that sexual reproduction involves two parents and results in diverse offspring, while asexual reproduction involves one parent and produces identical offspring.

Sexual and Asexual Reproduction
Reproduction is the process by which living beings produce offspring. There are two types of reproduction: sexual
and asexual. Sexual reproduction involves two parents. Each parent contributes special cells, called sperm and egg,
to create a new organism. This type of reproduction is common in animals, including humans, and plants. The
offspring are different from both parents because they have a mix of traits from each one.
On the other hand, asexual reproduction involves only one parent. The offspring are identical to the parent because
no mixing of cells happens. This type of reproduction is common in organisms like bacteria, fungi, and some plants.
Asexual reproduction is faster and doesn't require a mate, but the offspring are all the same.
Comprehension

B) Discussion
Think and answer:
1. Which type of reproduction do you think is more common in nature? Why?
2. Can you think of any examples of animals or plants that reproduce asexually?
3. Why do you think organisms use different methods of reproduction?
