The narrator in the texts talks about the effect of her illness on the narrators family in the
familys response to the illness of cancer. After the narrator comes out of seurgery from getting
her appendix removed her parents talk to her about something else, cancer she finds out that
she had a tumor that the doctor removed after he removed her appendix. Her parents after find
about it would rather not talk about it due to cancer being a tramatic expirence and we can see
that when she says "but don't waoory, she said, its all over now." The narrator stated "mother
said, the size of a turkey's egg" the mother of the narrator said the the tumor was like a turkeys
egg and this is a form of hyporbole and this effect is used on the narrator to not give her the
idea of her having cancer the mother wants her as far away from cnacer and the problem is that
the narratour takes this news bad as the is where problem of her insomnia which then leads on
to geater problems. This how the narrator use hyporbloe and simile to show the inpact of her
inllness on the fammily.
the effect of illness on the narrator were intresting aswell. when she was aware of the fact that
she had cancer she was dumb founded that she had cancer she thought that she was getting
her appendix removed but the sinsiter fact to it didnt even cross her mind. We can see this
when the narrator says that "thought of cancer never entered my head and she never
mentioned it." her mother just moving all so soon was simply to much for the narrator and with
the fact that they livied in rural canada right after WW2 thw living standars were no great ethier
and we can see this when she "but war and gas rationing had changed all that at least for the
time being" with living in rural canda which arent good living standards this all came to her
badly.
