In this episode, you will jump right into the principles.
DRAWING SKILLS.

Episode 1 -Usage of fast drawing

Learn the main grammar to express your ideas visually, and learn how to become fluent in this language. With
project-based assignments:
“if you run after your dreams you’ll never catch them, like elusive butterflies they’ll vanish from your sight,
instead make a gorgeous garden so they irresistibly will come to you.”
These first 30 weeks (first episode) are designed as a warm-up for the other two episodes.

Episode 1 Core ideas:


-you will be working on Project-based assignments to give you focus, purpose, a specific direction to follow.
-In this episode, you will learn to sketch with the proper use of silhouettes and thumbnails.
-By understanding three-dimensionality, you will learn how to apply/inspire yourself from references to make
your designs.
-Design with purpose, not randomly.
-Learn to save time by making quick sketches with a great sense of design, functionality, and balance. before
you dive into your final pieces.
-You can work in any digital software, like Procreate, Photoshop that uses pixels and layers.
-We encourage you to have sketchbooks to keep on drawing as much as you can.

Episode 1 There’s a very specific vibe on Production drawings, and this is not a random thing. The purpose behind this is
to communicate our ideas and designs as clearly as possible to our team, clients, boss, and so on.
It is not just about making a “pretty image” but being able to create a connection with it.

What is its functionality, size, proportions?
In episode 1, you will be introduced to the imperative components of concept art, how to think like a concept
designer.

Most artists and illustrators have a basic knowledge of perspective, but at GSU, you will learn how to really
understand it through very exciting, extremely challenging, and demanding tasks, beyond the status quo in
schools worldwide.
You will have really cool assignments challenging you, for the sake to acknowledge the foundational skills on
Episode 1 perspective.
To master drawing concept art, and to succeed in the entertainment industry, it is essential, for you to think of
yourself like you’re sculpting when drawing. And be really precise about your 3D understanding.

Perspective core subjects:

-Start with boxes in space with one, two, and three vanishing points.
-Playout with 3D boxes to create characters, and basic objects.
-Develop, (using perspective principles rarely taught in schools) 3D models out of a blueprints

Episode 1
Nowadays it is not enough to deliver designs and sketches, being able to render final images, and even final
illustrations, in the entertainment industry is an essential requirement from studios, clients, and audiences in
general.
In “Render out your designs” you will learn the principle skills and fundamentals through rendering assignments.

Render out your designs core subjects:


-Essential introduction to the software, procreate, Photoshop, with assignments allowing you to play with
materials, textures, and shapes.
-You will learn some of the advantages of digital tools.
-Main understanding of light and values for concept designers: color and value.
- Digital Painting to render your images, give details to your designs
- Sketch using references, twitch and mix them to create texture, shapes, and so on.
Deepening your knowledge

Episode 1 In order to sink in all the information, it is essential for you to have studio time in between classes to complete
your assignments. At these moments it is essential you accomplish the tasks, if you have any questions you can
ask JM Estevez, through our WhatsApp Chat. We have destined every Friday afternoon soo you can schedule to
solve any enquires you might have, to solve one to one, or to provide you with any help.

Gathering Design

Episode 2
-Now it is time for you to take on greater challenges. going into more difficult assignments, and projects, time
constraints, time management. specific time periods, real locations, and specific references. Your tutor will ask
you to make specific mandates, considering materials, so you can deliver them on time: being able to deliver
quality designs on time, is what will turn you from a beginner into a pro.

Gathering Design core subjects:


-In this second episode of “Gathering Design” you’ll be challenged with more difficult and fun assignments.
-Design with time constraints and “client” requirements.
-Go inside Some of our Greyscale projects to learn from examples.
-Become aware of your studio time, research, think even more about storytelling entertainment, functionality.
-Learn to present your work professionally.

Episode 2 In “visual ideas 2” episode 2, you will start to apply complex perspective techniques digitally, and use image
references in your designs to get inspired and get results faster.
You will start to mix techniques, to bring your designs to a greater quality level.
By the end of episode 2, you will have a clear understanding of most of the techniques used by pros in the
entertainment industry.

VISUAL IDEAS 2 , CORE SUBJECTS.

-Learn how to use references to give a finished and more polished render to your concept art pieces.
-Learn how to digitally implement textures and materials: Metal, Wood, plastic, rubber, and glass.
-Use several sketching and painting techniques used by industry experts
-learn how to Use the initial thumbnails to speed up your final designs
IDEAS EVOLVEMENT

In “ideas evolvement” you will be in a real-like freelancer experience, so your tutor would act as a client giving
Episode 2 you a specific mandate
Here, the idea for you is to experience how is it like to have mandates, deadlines, create concept art pieces for
your clients, and learn how to get used to talking to them, and sharing your thought process, so you express
your ideas with clarity in every way.
At the beginning of this episode, JM Estevez will assign you a specific entertainment-related mandate, and it is
up to you how you want to show it, depending on your personal interests.
The idea here is for you to keep the assigned themes, and you can turn them into toys, a videogame, a feature
film, a real product, or anything you wanted to be.
Thanks to this project, you will be able to experience all the pre-production development, from its beginning to
its end.

IDEAS EVOLVEMENT CORE SUBJECTS:

-The pre-production pipeline allows you to understand its progression, and you will be able to turn it into your
specific interests, what is it that you are passionate about? it is the time to show it.
-With this real-like studio experience, you’ll have the chance to be your own pre-production studio.

This is the final episode, so here you’ll take your area of expertise to make a high-quality portfolio, between 30
to 35 final pieces.
Here is essential that you can use all you have learned in the previous episodes to present high-standard pieces
within a great designed presentation. Your mentor will give you specific assignments so you complete them and
you will learn how to gather everything, from sketches, research materials to the final project pieces. so you
make a top-notch pitch book.

Design your portfolio core subjects:

Episode 3 Design language


while you’re painting like a professional. In “Advanced design” you will start to work with techniques to
help you capture ideas, and create and draw more efficiently. it is essential to learn how to plan out the
development of projects, assignments, and mandates.
You will use perspective grids and photographs to make faster design choices, you will tesselate to bring new
ideas for projects,

-Focus mainly on design while you learn to draw helping you out with perspective and photos, to work more
efficiently.
-Plan ahead, then sketch and paint.
-Inspire yourself from your own context, and from cultures all over the world to create memorable designs and

Episode 3 Learn the ability to create a project by yourself. Here your tutor will give you a specific subject and you can

Here, you will develop a series of final concept art pieces alongside great sketches to add to your final
portfolio.

Applications should meet the minimum entry requirements and be

required to sit through an interview, entry test, and skills review.
