SECTION A
Respond to all items in this section.
Item 1
Nakato is a young lady. She lives in Maduudu village, she loves God and always goes to
church to pray. She was baptized. While in church the Reverand emphasizes all the
Christians to take up other Holy sacraments like Holy communion, Holy confirmation and
Holy Matrimony. He also emphasizes equality of all people. Nakato grew up with her grand
mother who used to teach her more about the African traditional values like worshiping of
the ancestors, giving high respect to men (superiority of men) as part of cultural values.
Nakato is now in the state of confusion, when she goes back to church to pray, she feels like
as if the African traditional values are contradicting with the Christian teachings and values.
She needs help.
Tasks
Basing on the above scenario;
(a) Explain the similarities between Christianity and African traditional values that can
help Nakato understand both religions.
(b) Using the Christian views, how can a Christian prepare him/herself before worshiping
God?
Item 2
Mathew is a married man, he loves his wife unconditionally. They first stayed in trial
marriage for two years but after legalized their marriage in church. They have three children.
Of recent Mathew took his three children for a DNA Test and results showed that he is not
the biological father of the second child but the wife is not willing to speak the truth.
Mathew has given his wife two options, either to tell him who the father of the second child
is or to step out of marriage and sign a divorce letter.
Tasks
Basing on the scenario;
(a) Using Christian views, how best can the couples resolve their differences?
(b) Using the contemporary approach, explain the causes of marital unfaithfulness (adultery).

Part I
Item 3
Kyomu and Jomo are long term friends since childhood. They graduated together but
unfortunately Jomo got a job before his friend. He worked for three years. Because of the
friendship they had, he felt bad seeing his friend jobless. He therefore used all the money he
had worked for to help his close friend to get a job. God helped them and Kyomu got a good
paying job. He has worked for two years. Last year, Jomo lost his first job. He has begged
his friend to help him with some money to start out a small business. His friend told him that
he wasn’t wise enough to spend all his money on him instead of investing it for his own
benefit.
(a) Basing on Christian and contemporary approaches, advice the two friends in the scenario.

made for the Sabbath. Mark 2:27
Tasks
Using the above bible text;
(a) How can a Christian understand leisure?
(b) Explain the ways how leisure has been misused today.

Item 5
“I myself will teach your people and give them prosperity and peace. Justice and right will
make you strong. You will be safe from oppression and terror. Whoever attacks you does it
without my consent. Whoever fights against you will fail.” Isaiah 54:13-15.
Tasks
(a) Basing on the text, explain the Christian understanding of peace and justice.
(b) Using the contemporary approaches, how can the message in the above text help modern
leaders to promote peace?
Item 6
Mr. Mudyope is an elderly married man with a stable family of 5 children. He is a peace
maker and every one likes him. His neighbor’s son Mulwa fell in love with one of his
daughters. They carried out church marriage and the whole village was happy. However,
Mulwa again impregnated another neighbor’s daughter Veronica. She gave birth to twins and
basing on African tradition, twins are supposed to be breastfed from their father’s house.
Mulwa has one homestead which is for his first wife. The first wife has completely refused
to share the homestead with her co-wife insisting that she is the legal wife. At the same time
Mulwa has no funds to buy and construct for a second wife. Besides he is officially married
in church.

Task
Using both Christian and traditional approaches, advice the troubled families and couples in
the scenario.
