SCIENCE 10
Quarter 2 – Module 1
Detailed Lesson Plan
November 10, 2022

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Identify the types of electromagnetic spectrum;
2. Classify the examples that belongs to each EM waves;
3. Show appreciation about the importance of electromagnetic spectrum
through citing some applications of EM waves in real life.

Content Standards: Compare relative wavelengths of different forms of

electromagnetic waves (S10FE-IIa-b-47).

II. Subject Matter

Very good! Great Job!

 Based on the given pictures shown on the Student O share his/her
screen what are these? thoughts about EM waves.

- Electromagnetic waves,
Ma’am.
Yes, very good. We will start our journey for the
second quarter knowing what is Electromagnetic
waves.

Teacher: This time we are going to divide the

class into 4 groups.
- Each group will choose among the persons
who will act as leader, secretary and rapporteur.
- Group 1 and 3 has they have to arrange the
jumbled letters while group 2 and 4 will identify
the part of electromagnetic wave. Each group
will be given ample time to answer their task.
Group 1 and Group 3:
Instruction: Rearrange the jumbled letters.
2. It is a disturbance in space. – AWVE
(WAVE)
3. It is the highest point of wave. – SECRT
(CREST)
4. It is the lowest point of wave. –
HGUORT (TROUGH)
5. It is the distance from the midpoint to
the highest or lowest point of the
wave.- PAMTILEDU (AMPLITUDE)
6. The distance between two successive
identical parts of the wave –
HTGNELEVAW (WAVELENGTH)
7. It refers to the number of waves
produced in one second – NEQFCEURY
(FREQUENCY)

item number 3?
4. What part of electromagnetic wave is in the
item number 4?

EXPLAIN
- The selected rapporteur will now explain their Group 1 and 3 rapporteurs
output. share their output in front of the
class and their answers.

- Group 1 and 3 will go first followed by 2 and 4.

Group 2 and 4 rapporteur
shows their output by
identifying the part of
electromagnetic wave
Teacher: Yes, that’s right, very good students,
you all got the correct answer in our activity.

ELABORATE
Teacher: Now, to fully understand our topic this
morning/afternoon, let us dig deeper on what is
our topic all about.
Electromagnetic Waves
 An electromagnetic wave can be created
by accelerating charges; moving charges
back and forth will produce oscillating
electric and magnetic fields.
 These travel at the speed of light which is
300 000 000 m/s (meters per second).
 Electromagnetic waves differ from
mechanical waves in that they do not
require a medium to propagate.

Parts of Waves:
The waves have crests, troughs, wavelengths,
amplitude, and frequency.

Downloaded by Bryan Ligsay ([email protected])

lOMoARcPSD|31574145

 Crests- the highest point or the top of the

wave.
 Troughs- the lowest point of the wave.
 Wavelengths- the distance between two
succeeding crests or two succeeding
troughs.
 Amplitude- refers to the distance from
rest to crest. Similarly, from rest to trough.
Frequency

 the rate at which a vibration occurs that

constitutes a wave, either in a material (as in
sound waves), or in an electromagnetic field (as
in radio waves and light), usually measured per
second:

Electromagnetic Spectrum
The electromagnetic spectrum is a continuum of
electromagnetic waves arranged according to
frequency and wavelength. It is the gradual
progression in the waves of lowest frequencies
to the highest frequencies. The EM spectrum
includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared rays,
visible light, ultraviolet, x-rays, and gamma rays.

by radio stations, bringing your favorite tunes.
Radio waves are also emitted by stars and
gases in space.
Microwave: Microwave radiation will cook your
popcorn in just a few minutes, but is also used

by astronomers to learn about the structure of Student D: Its radio waves

nearby galaxies. Ma’am.
Infrared: Night vision goggles pick up the
infrared light emitted by our skin and objects with
heat. In space, infrared light helps us map the
dust between stars.
Student F: Its Violet Ma’am.
Visible: Our eyes detect visible light. Fireflies,
light bulbs, and stars all emit visible light.
Ultraviolet: Ultraviolet radiation is emitted by the
Sun and are the reason skin tans and burns.
"Hot" objects in space emit UV radiation as well.
Student I: Red Ma’am.
X-ray: A dentist uses X-rays to image your teeth,
and airport security uses them to see through
your bag. Hot gases in the Universe also emit X-
rays.
Gamma ray: Doctors use gamma-ray imaging to
see inside your body. The biggest gamma-ray
generator of all is the Universe.

EVALUATE
Teacher: Now, it’s time to try the fruit of our
journey. Get ¼ sheet of paper and answer the

seconds each item.
