Management & Leadership Skills - Journal Instructions & Rubric
Management & Leadership Skills - Journal Instructions & Rubric
The following Course Learning Outcomes are assessed in this assignment: CLO 1, CLO 2, CLO 3, CLO 5,
CLO 6
Purpose:
Both in traditional and online classrooms, journal entries are used as tools for student reflection. By
consciously thinking about and comparing issues, life experiences, and more, you are better able to
understand links between theory and practice and generate opinions related to your own personal and
professional development.
This kind of writing assignment is meant to be interactive, as you engage with ideas and experiences
that bring about questions, comparisons, insights, criticisms, speculations, and tentative conclusions.
Although somewhat less formal than essays or other course writing assignments, journal entries should
still construct a coherent narrative, use complete sentences, be grammatically correct, and demonstrate
evidence of critical thought.
Instructions
The reflective journal is intended to be a space to make connections – your connections among the
various complementary elements of the course. The object of the journal is not to think like someone
else but to develop your own reflective practice.
Each week you will be provided with a journal prompt related to course themes under the broader
umbrella of management and leadership. Take the time to consider the weekly prompt and
demonstrate critical thinking and reflection in your writing.
Although there no rigid format or template that must be followed, each weekly entry should be
approximately 150-200 words and a title page is required.
