The Relevance of Philosophy
The word “Philosophy” is not a term that most highschool graduates are familiar with,
for the reason that during our highschool years we do not have courses labelled such as
philosophy. However, high school curriculum – our subjects at that offer courses that contain
segments dealing with matters that are philosophical in nature, but we, the students may not
recognize them as such. We have actually encountered it not to mention the slum books we
signed – in answering the question: what’s your motto in life? Or the themes we encounter in
the books of Bob Ong and in the Comics Kiko Machine. The result of all this is that
philosophy as an academic discipline remains an activity that many students know little
about.
In general, one can state what philosophy is by means of the following definition:
“Philosophy is the knowledge of all things through their ultimate causes, acquired through the
use of reason.”
In our ever-changing world, the contemporary world in which people get easily swayed with
misinformation and that student and many other people in the society developed a habit of
mediocrity, and that the search of truth is difficult if not impossible.
