Activity 1: AI for Instructional Preparation and

Planning

Project Description
Overview
In this activity, participants use AI to design and develop instructional materials tailored to their
specific contexts. Working either independently or in small groups organized by grade level,
subject area, or other relevant characteristics, educators will explore how AI can enhance the
efficiency and depth of their instructional planning. This task focuses on utilizing AI to support
the creation of various educational materials including lesson plans, assessments, and tailored
learning resources, emphasizing the enhancement of teaching efficiency without diminishing the
crucial role of educator creativity and insight.

Performance and/or Learning Outcomes

● Participants design one or more AI-enhanced instructional materials that directly apply to
their teaching needs.
● Participants demonstrate the ability to integrate AI tools to streamline the creation of
diverse and inclusive educational content.
What Will You Do?
1. Brainstorm: Based on your work this week researching AI tools and reflecting on their
ethical and safe use, engage in a whole-cohort discussion on the ways in which AI might
be able to enable and empower you. Consider—
○ How might AI be a tool for efficiency in instructional planning and preparation?
○ How might AI enable teachers to provide better instruction and personalized
support to students?
○ What potential drawbacks, dangers, or challenges do you predict will arise from
the use of AI?
2. Choose Your Focus: Select the type of instructional material you wish to develop
including, but not limited to, a detailed lesson plan, a set of differentiated classroom
resources, a detailed routine or procedure for your classroom management, a data-
driven activity plan, or a family communication. Refer to the comprehensive list of
suggested materials provided in the “Activity Resources” for ideas and guidance.
3. Research and Select AI Tools: Identify and select AI tools from the repository created in
the first activity that are best suited to assist in developing your chosen instructional
material.
4. Design Your Material: Utilize the selected AI tool(s) to develop your instructional
material. Experiment with the use of the AI tool to enhance the material’s effectiveness,
inclusivity, and adaptability while also promoting efficiency and effectiveness in your
work.
5. Review and Feedback: Consult with a colleague, either a peer within this cohort or an
educator in your school, to review your instructional material for feedback. Review the
educational material you developed with AI through the lens of the ethical framework you
developed in the previous activity to refine and improve your material.
6. Finalize and Submit: Finalize your instructional material(s) based on feedback and your
own critical assessment. On the “Submission Tab,” submit the material(s) you created
along with a written or recorded reflection that outlines the AI tools used and the
development process.
Report Requirements
● AI-enhanced instructional material
● Description of the AI tools used and the way AI impacted the instructional material
development
Notes
While engaging with this activity, consider the balance between technological efficiency and the
necessity for human creativity. AI should serve as a tool to enhance your instructional materials,
not replace the unique insights and adaptations that an experienced educator brings to the
classroom. For a comprehensive list of instructional material types and detailed examples,
please refer to the "AI-Enhanced Instructional Materials Examples" document available in the
course resources section. This will provide further inspiration and practical examples to guide
your creation process.

Activity 2: Implementing AI-Enhanced Educational

Materials

Project Description

Overview
In this application-based activity, participants put into practice the AI-enhanced educational
material(s) they developed in the previous activity. This practical application allows educators to
assess the effectiveness of their AI-supported resources in a real-world teaching environment.
Participants are encouraged to observe and collect data on the implementation, focusing on
how the AI tools have impacted instructional efficiency, engagement, and educational
outcomes. This activity may serve as an evaluation of the utility of AI in reducing the time spent
on routine tasks and enhancing the capacity for creative and critical pedagogical work.

Performance and/or Learning Outcomes

● Participants implement AI-enhanced instructional materials within their teaching practice
and evaluate their effectiveness.
● Participants critically assess the role of AI in improving educational outcomes and
identify areas for future enhancement or adjustment.
What Will You Do?
1. Prepare for Implementation: Review the AI-enhanced instructional material you
developed, ensuring it is ready for integration into your teaching environment. Prepare
any necessary tools or technology needed for effective implementation.
2. Implement the Material: Use the AI-enhanced material in your classroom or educational
setting. This could involve delivering a lesson, administering an assessment, or utilizing
a resource during classroom activities.
3. Collect Data: Gather data on the implementation process and the impact of the AI-
enhanced material. This can include student performance data, feedback from students
or peers, audiovisual artifacts of student engagement, or even your own reflections on
the process.
4. Evaluate Effectiveness: Analyze the data collected to evaluate the effectiveness of the
AI tool. Consider both positive outcomes and areas where the material did not meet
expectations or needs improvement.
5. Submit Evidence: On the “Submission Tab,” submit a presentation, report, or reflection
documenting your experiences implementing an AI-enhanced educational material.
Include an analysis of the effectiveness of AI in supporting your work. Submit data
collected with specific examples and artifacts (i.e., student work, videos, photos, or
testimonials).
Report Requirements
● Summarization of the implementation of their AI-enhanced educational material,
including an analysis of its effectiveness and impact
● Evidence of implementation including samples of student work, photos, videos, or
testimonials
Notes
You are required to remove students’ personally identifiable information as part of your
submission. You may not include student names, identification numbers, or images/videos of
students without the permission of school administration.

As you conduct this activity, focus on the interplay between AI tools and pedagogical goals.
Reflect on how AI can be further optimized or adjusted to better meet the needs of your
students and your professional practice. Consider this implementation as a pilot test that can
inform your own future use of AI, also providing insights for colleagues. This reflective process
is crucial for understanding the practical implications of integrating AI into educational practices
and will guide your continued professional development in this area.

Activity 3: Reflection on Professional Development

(PD)
Project Description
Overview
Professional development at Moreland University is an opportunity to provide educators around
the world with the space, activities, resources, and community to engage in effective continuing
education. It is incumbent upon participants to lead their own professional learning and growth
by mindfully determining ways to make professional development applicable to their own
practice. One important step of the learning process is metacognitive reflection. In this brief
activity, reflect on your learning in this professional development and plan concrete next steps
for your continuing education and effectiveness as an educator.

Performance and/or Learning Outcomes

● Participants reflect on their learning in this professional development and identify ways
they will apply new strategies, research, or resources to their teaching practice.

What will you do?

1. Reflect on your learning and growth in this professional development. Metacognitively
reflect on the question, “How have I taken advantage of this opportunity for my own
continuing education to improve my practice?”
2. In a written or recorded response, respond to both of the following prompts in a final
reflection:
1. Relevance and Meaningfulness: How relevant and meaningful did you find this
PD? How have insights and learning from this PD shaped your professional
growth and instructional practice? Please describe specific elements that
enhanced or limited the relevance and meaningfulness of this PD to you.
2. Implementation of New Learning: Considering new tools, techniques, and
pedagogical strategies introduced during the PD, how do you envision
implementing your learning in the classroom? How do you think the integration of
this new learning will affect your teaching practice? Discuss potential challenges
or opportunities you anticipate encountering.
3. On the “Submission” tab, submit a link to your reflection.
Report requirements
Link to metacognitive reflection on relevance and meaningfulness, as well as implementation of
new learning

Notes
This may be one of the most important steps of your professional development. Mindful and
metacognitive reflection is essential for impactful learning, so take full advantage of this activity
as a means to concretize your learning.
