READING
Linh woke up to the soft sound of raindrops tapping against her window. The sky outside
was covered with thick, gray clouds, and the air felt cooler than usual. She sighed and pulled
her blanket closer, wishing she could stay in bed a little longer. But today was an important
day—her class was having a spelling contest, and she had studied for weeks to prepare.

She slowly got out of bed and put on her school uniform. Then, she grabbed her bright
yellow raincoat and her red umbrella. As she stepped outside, a chilly breeze made her
shiver. The streets were wet, and puddles had formed in the cracks of the sidewalk. Linh
knew she had to be careful. She had once slipped on a wet road before, and she didn’t want
to make the same mistake again.

As she walked to school, she passed by the neighborhood park. There, a group of children
was jumping in puddles, splashing water everywhere. They laughed and ran around, their
clothes completely soaked. Linh smiled at them, but she didn’t stop. She wanted to stay dry,
especially since she had to stand in front of the whole class for the spelling contest.

Halfway to school, the rain started falling harder, and the wind picked up. Linh tightened her
grip on her umbrella, but a sudden gust of wind almost pulled it from her hands. She
struggled for a moment before regaining control. A few steps later, she saw an old woman
standing at the bus stop, trying to cover herself with a small scarf. Linh hesitated. If she
shared her umbrella, she might get wet. But if she didn’t, the old woman would be cold.

Without thinking too much, Linh walked over and held her umbrella over the woman. The
woman looked at her with surprise, then smiled. "Thank you, dear," she said softly. Linh
smiled back, feeling warm inside despite the cold rain.

By the time she reached school, her sleeves were slightly wet, but she didn’t mind. Her
teacher greeted her with a warm smile. “Good morning, Linh! I see you came prepared for
the rain.” Linh nodded and took her seat, her heart still feeling light from her small act of
kindness. Even though the rain continued to pour outside, she felt ready to face the day.
