Matthew 23:13
13)“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you
shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go
in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.
So many religious regulation that people put on that it’s hard for people to even wanna go to
church. Performance based mindset people tend to be hypocritical. They don’t practice what they
preach .
14)Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you
devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers.
Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
15)“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you
travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won,
you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.
Whatever spirit you’re hanging out with you’re gonna become that. Whatever behaviour is
modelled to you, you’re gonna eventually acting like that. So when you hang out with the Holy
Spirit you’ll began to manifest the fruit of the Holy Spirit. So, when you hang around people who
are in uence by religious spirit, you’ll be in uence by them to be more religious. You are like the 5
people you hang around the most.
Jesus did not die so that we can have religion, He died so that we can have relationship. Our
perception of Jesus can be clouded by the things we have learnt through religion.
We have to believe what the bible says about Jesus and what the bible says about us.

16)“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, Whoever swears by the
temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the
temple, he is obliged to perform it.’
17)Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple
that sancti es the gold?
Blind us to the Love of God. They know the scripture but they missed Jesus.
Makes people feel like they need to perform or work something to ear God’s love.
Religious churches tends to be abusive and blind to the real need of the people whom they
supposed to be serving.
The leaders who are operating under these spirit will persecute those who wanted to step back
for other things. Those who are victim will try to work harder to earn the approval of those who are
persecuting him/her. The know that, leaving is one way out of that, but because they like their
position, they’ll choose to stay.
Ephesians 2.- you are accepted in the beloved. So don’t beat yourself up if you missed your bible
study, prayer time, and so fort. Give mercy to you. God never condemn us.
Mat 23:23
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay
tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the
weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith.
These you ought to have done, without leaving the others
undone.
The pharisees are very careful and follow the religious law by they neglected something God has
in his heart : Mercy, justice and faithfulness
These are the people who tithe and o er money religiously but neglect their neighbour when they
see them in need. Their mind says “I already gave to the Lord”. Jesus said all the law of the
commandments came down to one thing which is LOVE.
- But they put performance ahead of GRACE and LOVE.
