Hello everyone!

Today, we’re going to talk about the Sustainable Development Goals, or

SDGs, set by the United Nations. These goals aim to make the world a better place by 2030.
Let’s break them down in a simple way!

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals adopted by all
United Nations member states in 2015. They are designed to address the world’s biggest
challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace,
and justice. The SDGs provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the
planet, now and into the future.

Objectives of Sustainable Development:

1. Healthy and productive life in harmony with nature – Ensuring well-being while
maintaining environmental balance.
2. Preservation of environment and sustainable use of natural resources – Protecting
ecosystems and using resources responsibly.
3. Eradicate poverty – Ensuring that everyone has access to basic needs and
opportunities for a better life.
4. Reduce disparities in standard of living – Addressing inequalities in income, access
to services, and quality of life.
5. Human rights – Promoting dignity, equality, and justice for all individuals.
6. Peace and security – Building stable societies free from violence and conflict.
7. Preserve cultural diversity – Recognizing and valuing different cultures, traditions, and
ways of life.

The Eight Key Issues Addressed by the SDGs:

1. Population and Human Resources – Managing population growth and ensuring
human resource development.
2. Industry – Promoting sustainable industrialization and innovation.
3. Food Security – Ensuring stable food production and access to nutritious food.
4. Species and Ecosystems – Protecting biodiversity and maintaining healthy
ecosystems.
5. The Urban Challenge – Addressing issues in urbanization, including housing,
infrastructure, and sustainability.
6. Managing the Commons – Ensuring responsible use of shared global resources like
air, water, and forests.
7. Energy – Transitioning to sustainable and renewable energy sources.
8. Conflict and Environmental Degradation – Addressing conflicts related to resource
scarcity and environmental destruction.
The Four Dimensions of Sustainable Development:

1. Social – Ensuring equal opportunities, human rights, education, healthcare, and overall
well-being for all.
2. Economic – Promoting fair wages, job opportunities, and sustainable economic growth.
3. Political – Strengthening governance, justice, and institutions to ensure peace and
stability.
4. Environmental – Protecting natural resources, reducing pollution, and fighting climate
change.

Ten Impactful Actions to Support the SDGs:

1. Save energy at home – Turn off lights and unplug devices when not in use. Switch to
energy-efficient appliances to reduce your carbon footprint.
2. Walk, bike, or take public transport – Reduce car usage to lower air pollution and
greenhouse gas emissions.
3. Eat more vegetables – A plant-based diet requires fewer resources and helps reduce
environmental impact.
4. Consider your travel – Opt for eco-friendly travel options like trains or buses, and
reduce air travel when possible.
5. Throw away less food – Plan meals, store food properly, and compost waste to reduce
food waste.
6. Reduce, reuse, repair, recycle – Minimize waste by reusing items, repairing broken
things, and recycling materials.
7. Change your home's source of energy – If possible, switch to renewable energy
sources like solar or wind power.
8. Switch to an electric vehicle – Consider using an electric or hybrid vehicle to cut down
on fossil fuel consumption.
9. Make your money count – Support sustainable businesses and ethical investments
that align with SDG principles.
10.Speak up – Raise awareness about the SDGs in your community, advocate for policies
that support sustainability, and educate others on making positive changes.

The 17 Goals of Sustainable Development:

1. No Poverty The goal is to end extreme poverty everywhere. This means ensuring that
everyone has enough money for food, shelter, and basic needs.

2. Zero Hunger This goal focuses on making sure no one goes hungry. It supports better
farming, fair food distribution, and access to nutritious meals.

3. Good Health and Well-Being Health is wealth! This goal aims to improve healthcare, fight
diseases, and promote healthy lifestyles for all.
4. Quality Education Education changes lives. This goal ensures that everyone, especially
children, has access to quality learning opportunities.

5. Gender Equality Men and women should have the same rights and opportunities. This goal
fights discrimination and promotes equal treatment for all.

6. Clean Water and Sanitation Water is life! This goal ensures access to safe drinking water
and proper sanitation for everyone.

7. Affordable and Clean Energy Electricity should be clean and affordable. This goal supports
renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.

8. Decent Work and Economic Growth Everyone deserves a good job with fair pay. This goal
promotes economic growth, fair wages, and safe working conditions.

9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure To move forward, we need better roads, internet
access, and technology. This goal promotes progress in these areas.

10. Reduced Inequalities Fair treatment for all! This goal works to reduce discrimination based
on gender, race, or economic background.

11. Sustainable Cities and Communities Let’s make cities safer, greener, and more inclusive
for all people.

12. Responsible Consumption and Production We must use resources wisely and reduce
waste to protect our planet.

13. Climate Action Climate change is real. This goal pushes for action to reduce pollution and
protect the environment.

14. Life Below Water We need to protect oceans, marine life, and coral reefs from pollution and
overfishing.

15. Life on Land This goal focuses on protecting forests, wildlife, and natural habitats.

16. Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions The world needs peace and justice. This goal
promotes fair laws, strong institutions, and an end to corruption.

17. Partnerships for the Goals We can’t do this alone! This goal encourages teamwork among
countries, businesses, and organizations to achieve all the SDGs.
