5.6 Appendix A: SLB Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Acknowledgment
I, __________________________(NAME) acknowledge that I accept the role of Mental Health
First Aider (MHFA) for ________________________________ LOCATION.
I agree to be a point of contact for employees who may wish to share and talk about a difficult issue
or challenge they are experiencing from a mental health or psychological wellbeing perspective.
I will endeavor to listen in an empathic, non-judgemental manner and if needed direct the employee
to additional resources and health professionals who are best placed to advise and treat the
problem.
In carrying out this role, I will always assess the situation risks to my own health. I will look after my
mental health and wellbeing and not attempt to become the primary caregiver for the employee's
mental health needs. In situations where I identify a threat to my own wellbeing (physical,
emotional, or psychological) I will excuse myself from providing MHFA and redirect the person to
professional care.
I will maintain the trust, privacy, and confidentiality of my colleague, unless there is a clear and
serious risk of harm to the individual or others. In situations beyond my level of experience or
comfort or where the issue represents a serious risk of harm, I understand I have a responsibility
to escalate the matter to either the HSE Manager or HR Manager or Country or Global Medical
Advisor.
