Task 1
1. Describe the impact of increased carbon dioxide concentration on global
temperatures.
Increased carbon dioxide concentration on global temperatures will impact temperature and its
value. Through the greenhouse effect, which isolates heat with radiation from the sun on
earth’s atmosphere, therefore leading to global warming. As carbon dioxide emissions increase,
global temperature will increase; it will impact rainfall, ice melting, sea levels and changes in
frequency of storms and hurricanes.
Rainfall will have more salinity, impacting soil pH and its nutrients, ice melting will increase sea
levels, potentially covering bodies of land, storms and hurricanes will be more frequent and
heat waves and droughts will reach extreme levels.
2. Analyse the impact of increased carbon dioxide concentration on global
temperatures.
The warming in the earth’s atmosphere will have different consequences. One major
consequence of rising CO₂ levels is the increase in extreme weather events. Higher global
temperatures contribute to more intense heat waves, stronger storms, and prolonged
droughts. These changes disrupt ecosystems, harm biodiversity, and make it difficult for many
species to survive. In addition, melting ice caps and glaciers result in rising sea levels, which
threaten coastal communities with flooding and erosion. The loss of ice also reduces the Earth's
ability to reflect sunlight, further accelerating global warming.
Another consequence of global warming is less agricultural productivity. Agriculture is
particularly affected, as shifting weather patterns and unpredictable rainfall make it harder for
farmers to grow crops. This can lead to food shortages and higher prices, affecting economies
worldwide. Moreover, rising temperatures pose serious health risks, increasing the spread of
diseases and worsening air quality, which can lead to respiratory problems.
3. Evaluate the impact of increased carbon dioxide concentration on global
temperatures.
An impact of increased global temperatures, due to carbon dioxide emissions, is definitely
harsher weather events that impact different parts of the environment. One of the most visible
effects is more frequent and intense heat waves, hurricanes, and wildfires. Additionally, higher
temperatures contribute to the melting of glaciers and polar ice caps, leading to rising sea
levels that threaten coastal communities. Climate change also disrupts ecosystems, causing
shifts in species distribution, habitat loss, and biodiversity decline.
Although CO2 could benefit plant growth in the short term, therefore increasing agricultural
output, it does not outweigh the negative effects. The overall consequences of rising global
temperatures, driven by increased carbon dioxide concentrations, create a much larger and
more complex challenge.
