SA2 Revision Worksheet – Fun with magnets (2025-26)

Grade: 6 Subject: Science

General Instructions

i. All the questions are compulsory.

ii. Each question of section A carries 2 marks, each question of section B carries 3 marks and each
question of section C carries 4 marks.

Section A

1. What is a magnet? Name two types of magnets.

2. Define magnetic and non-magnetic materials with one example of each.
3. What is a magnetic compass? How is it useful?
4. What is the difference between a permanent magnet and a temporary magnet? Give one
example of each.
5. What happens when like poles of two magnets are brought close to each other?
6. How can you identify the north pole of a bar magnet using another magnet?

Section B

Section B: 3 Marks Each (Answer in 3-4 sentences or diagrams)

7. Explain how a magnet loses its magnetic properties. List three ways to preserve a magnet.
8. Draw a diagram of a bar magnet and show its magnetic field lines. Label the poles.
9. Describe an activity to show that a freely suspended magnet always aligns in the north-south
direction.
10. How can you make a temporary magnet using an iron nail? Explain the steps.
11. What are electromagnets? How are they different from permanent magnets?
12. Why are magnets used in cranes to separate scrap iron from waste materials? Explain.

Section C

13 Case-Based Study Question:

Rahul was playing with two bar magnets. He observed that when he brought the north pole of one
magnet close to the south pole of the other, they attracted each other. However, when he brought
the north poles of both magnets close to each other, they repelled.
● a) What does this observation tell us about the properties of magnets?
● b) Why do opposite poles attract and like poles repel?
● c) If Rahul cuts one of the bar magnets into two equal pieces, what will happen to the poles
of the new pieces?

14 Experimental-Based Question:
Design an experiment to demonstrate that a magnet has a magnetic field around it.
● a) List the materials required.
● b) Write the steps to perform the experiment.
● c) Draw a diagram to show the observation.
