About MAHE
Students Research Forum of
KMC Mangalore
Established in 2013, the MAHE Students Research Forum (SRF) at KMC
Mangalore is dedicated to fostering innovation and research among
undergraduate students. Serving as a dynamic platform, SRF encourages
students to engage in scientific events, ideation sessions, and skill-building
activities that contribute to their development as future medical professionals.

One of SRF’s flagship initiatives is KMC EREVNA, an undergraduate medical


research conference that continues to attract a diverse cohort of students
from across India. The 2024 edition witnessed remarkable participation,
featuring a range of scientific events, including paper, poster and case
presentations, an innovative hackathon, and hands-on workshops.

Beyond organizing academic events, SRF plays a pivotal role in equipping


students with essential research skills. The forum provides structured training
in research methodology, guiding students through the process of writing and

conventional medical curriculum.

1. Eligibility: Undergraduate MBBS students and interns are
allowed to participate.
2. Submissions must be original research studies showcasing
innovative findings and methodologies.
3. Participation is allowed individually or in teams of two.
Intercollegiate teams are not allowed.
4. All team members must register individually for a plan that
includes the respective event.
5. Only one member from the team needs to submit the
abstract on behalf of the team.
6. The same abstract cannot be submitted for more than one
scientific event (case/paper/poster presentation).
7. The scientific committee will choose abstracts following an
extensive evaluation.
8. The abstract must be the author's original work, with less
than 10% similarity index.
9. Abstracts that are submitted must not have been presented
in prior conferences.

rare, or challenging clinical scenarios.
3. Participation is allowed individually or in teams of two.

scientific event (case/paper/poster presentation).
5. All team members must register individually for a plan that
includes the respective event.
6. Only one member from the team needs to submit the abstract on

Med Quest (pre and para QUIZ) RULES :
1. The event is open to MBBS undergraduate students in 1st and 2nd
year only.
2. Team will comprise of 2 members. Intercollegiate teams are not
allowed.
3. All team members must register individually for a plan that includes
the respective event.
4. This quiz will include questions that address the core subjects of the
current 1st and 2nd year MBBS curriculum which include Anatomy,
Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology and
Microbiology.
5. The Letter of Nomination by the Head of the Institution/Dean is a
necessity for participation in the quiz.
6. Only one member from the team needs to submit the form for quiz.

Medicae Sapientia (grand quiz) RULES :


1. The event is open to all MBBS undergraduate students including
interns.
2. Team will comprise of 2 members, only 1 intern per team is allowed.
3. All team members must register individually for a plan that includes
the respective event.
4. Intercollegiate teams are not allowed.
5. This quiz will include questions that address a wide range of subjects
across the current MBBS curriculum.
6. The Letter of Nomination by the Head of the Institution/Dean is a
necessity for participation in the quiz.

Outline of QUIZ:

Pre and Para clinical quiz


The competition consists of three rounds.
Round 1: Written Quiz featuring objective questions open

to all registered participants, with tie-breaker HOTs.The
top 10 teams advance to the next round.
Round 2: Elimination Challenge, which includes a written
segment followed by a verbal rapid elimination round.The
top five to six teams move to the next round.
Round 3: The Ultimate Challenge, a verbal round with
anagrams and complex problem-solving, where the final
winners will be determined.

Grand Quiz
The competition consists of two rounds.
Round 1: Written Quiz featuring objective questions open
to all registered participants, with tie-breaker HOTs. The
top five to six teams advance to the next round.
Round 2: The Ultimate Challenge, a high-stakes verbal
round featuring rigorous medical reasoning and analytical
challenges, where the ultimate champions of the MBBS
Grand Quiz will be crowned.

NOTE: Any ONE Quiz can be chosen. Delegates cannot


participate in both Grand Quiz and Pre and Para Clinical Quiz.

HACKATH N

Theme: MedTech INNOVATION

Participants must identify a real-world problem related to MedTech


and propose a sustainable solution in line with the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs).
The event will be conducted in two phases.
Phase 1 : Teams need to submit an abstract outlining their proposed
MedTech solution.
Phase 2 : Top 10 teams will be selected which involves Offline
pitching and a crisis round in front of the panel of judges.
The selected teams will be given a crisis scenario 30 minutes
before their final pitch.
Teams must adapt their pitch to the crisis and explain how they
will overcome it.
In the final pitch, teams must not only present their original
business plan but also explain how they will resolve the crisis
effectively.

General instruction
The event is open to all undergraduate MBBS students and
interns.
No intercollegiate teams are allowed.
Each team must consist of 2 members.
Only one speaker is allowed per section of the debate.
Switching speakers mid-speech is not allowed.
The use of AI to prepare or generate speeches is strictly
prohibited, and if found out, the team will be disqualified.
Selected teams will be informed of the topics 1 weeks prior to
the event date, in order to allow ample time for preparation.
Selected teams have to submit nomination forms signed by
the head of the institution or dean.
The judge’s say on matters will be final.
A team may be asked to verify the source of any evidence in
an argument, and a team being disruptive on stage may have
marks deducted, time deducted from their time to speak, or be
disqualified from the event.
The Letter of Nomination by the Head of the Institution/Dean
is a necessity for presentation.

Each team will initially get 3 minutes to present their main

main argument.
There will then be a 1 minute rebuttal round, where participants
may directly address their opponents and question their
arguments. Their opponent will then get 1 minute to respond to
their rebuttal. This will proceed as follows:

Against (Response) - 1 minute
Against (Rebuttal) - 1 minute
For (Response) - 1 minute
Each team will then be asked questions by the judge regarding
their argument, to which they will have 1 minute to respond.
Finally, each team will get 1 minute to make their closing
statements.

or interns of the same college.

Prof. Dr. B Unnikrishnan is Dean of KMC Mangalore,


Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, India.
Sir completed his MBBS from Pt J N M Medical
College, Raipur, and MD in Community Medicine
from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.
Dr. B. Unnikrishnan has published more than 300
