Modelling: Solar Energy Refer to textbook page nos.: 97
The Sun’s energy is a product
of nuclear fusion, a process
which combines small nuclei
to form heavier ones,
releasing energy as a result.
We’ll examine the primary
components and the cycle at
work in the Sun’s core that
enable this stellar
powerhouse to illuminate
and energize our solar
system.

Modelling: Heat Budget Refer to textbook page nos.: 97,98
The heat budget of the Earth is
the balance between incoming
solar insolation and outgoing
terrestrial radiation which
maintains the average annual
temperature of the earth at
15-degree celsius. The heat
budget refers to the balance of
energy that enters and leaves
the planet’s atmosphere. The
total radiation returning from
the earth and the atmosphere
respectively is 17+48 = 65
units which balance the total of
65 units received from the
sun. The earth receives a
certain amount of Insolation
(short waves) and gives back
heat into space by terrestrial
radiation (longwave radiation)
