M/V Gem of Ennore


In 2001, this 73,800 dwt vessel owned by West Asia
Maritime Ltd. in India was converted into a selfunloading
vessel with deck cranes and stationary hoppers. She
is primarily intended to carry coal along the Indian East
coast.

BMH Marine AB was awarded the contract to deliver


the selfunloading conveyor system and the conversion
was carried out at Chengxi Shipyard in China.

Description of the system Vessel’s main dimensions


Discharging is done from the cargo holds by means of Length o.a. 225.0 m
deck cranes loading the cargo into seven stationary Length between p.p. 217.0 m
hoppers located on main deck. Each hopper is provided Width 32.2 m
with a belt feeder to feed the material, at a constant rate, Depth 19.15 m
to a longitudinal belt conveyor. The longitudinal conveyor Draught 12.4 m
inclines and transports the material to a cross conveyor. Dead weight 73,800 dwt
From the cross conveyor the material is transferred onto
a slewable and hoistable boom conveyor for further Discharge particulars
transport to the existing receiving conveyor arrangement
ashore. Discharge capacity 4000 t/h or 4000 m3/h
Length of boom conveyor 47.3 m
Despite of the fact that the boom conveyor is located on Slewing range of boom conveyor 240°
starboard side and in direct connection with the cross
conveyor, the slewing range of the boom conveyor is 240°.
This allows the boom to reach and discharge also to
portside.

The operation of all belt feeders and belt conveyors is


done remotely from the control room located between the
cargo holds no. 1 and 2. Each conveyor can also be
operated from a local position for maintenance purpose.
