STINED, CALLED … FOR GOD'S PURPOSE (CDC Series)
Description
In the Seasons of Prayer, we deepened our prayer life
and our knowledge and relationship with Jesus,
fulfilling His first commandment to love Him above all.
In this series, we extend our prayer life into action by
seeking God's purpose for our lives, to discover and
commit to our personal mission, to serve Him by
serving His people.
Personal Sharing: Describe your current mission and
how your prayer is helping you discover this mission
and fulfill it.
When God calls us for His purpose, it is not because of
who we are, not according to our expectations or that
of others, but by His own divine plan. When he called
St. Paul, it went against all logic because he
persecuted the Lord's disciples.
Personal Sharing : How did you receive your calling?
What was your first reaction and how did you come to
accept it?
Sometimes, we resist God's purpose by doing what we
want instead of where He calls us. In the end, God's
plans will prevail.
Jonah was called by God to preach in Nineveh, a
pagan city. He didn’t like the idea, so he got on a ship
to escape God. The ship sailed into a storm, and Jonah
was thrown overboard.
In His great mercy, God rescued Jonah in the most
remarkable way by providing a saving fish that
swallowed him and then vomitted him when he began
to pray.
Personal Sharing: Describe how you tried to resist and
escape from God's purpose for you. What happened
when you decided to obey Him?
God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
God does not give us tasks based on earthly
standards, He chooses and equips those He has called.
Mary was called at a very young age, she had no
experience that qualifies her to raise a child, much
more the Son of God. But God chose her and destined
her to be the mother of our Saviour.
Personal Sharing: Do you ever feel unqualified for
your personal mission? In what ways? How has God
honored your availability by developing your ability?
Trust in God's timing, He is never delayed. Elizabeth's
pregnancy came late in life - God's plan was for her
son John to prepare the way for the Lord and for
Elizabeth to mentor Mother Mary as she carries Jesus
in her womb.
Personal Sharing: How has God delayed some of your
own plans to give way to His own purpose?
God sometimes leads us to do things even when we
do not understand. Complete trust in His great plans
for us is needed, God has the eternal view while ours
is limited.
Joseph's mission to become the earthly father of Jesus
was fulfilled only with full trust in the plan of God. His
obedience to God's leading made him the perfect
guide and protector of Mary and Jesus.
Personal sharing: How has your prayer life helped
guide you in leading your family/children to become
the father/mother/guardian after God's own heart?
Share your difficulties in obeying before
understanding.
Our past can’t be changed, but God can direct our
future. Our difficult past might be the very tool God
uses to help us encourage others to learn from the
lessons of our painful journey.
Jesus used even the sinful past of the Samaritan
woman to make her believe in Him and even be His
witness to proclaim Jesus to others.
Personal Sharing: Describe your journey from
overcoming a painful or sinful past towards fulfilling
God's current prupose for your life. Share how God
has give you a victorious present.
God rewards our commitment and dedication to our
mission with His faithfulness and generosity in our
lives.
The Book of Ruth encourages us to view our day-to-
day lives as part of God’s bigger plan for our lives and
the lives of those we touch.
Personal Sharing: How has God rewarded your
dedication to serve Him according to His purpose?
Nicodemus was a man who searched for a deeper
meaning of his faith. He sought Jesus but because of
his sensitive position, he choses to remain silent. But
the Lord challenged him to be bold in his faith and in
the end, he proved his convictions.
Personal sharing: was there a time that the Lord
challenged you to be bolder and stand up for your
faith and convictions even if it means opposing the
wordly view of others?
Peter's mission was to be the ROCK on which God
builds His church. But just after, he receives this
mission, Jesus describes how he will "lose his life". Are
we to gain or lose our life in pursuing God's purpose?
Personal Sharing : What did you lose from following
God's mission? What did you gain to show that God
can never be outgiven?
From Jesus example, we learn that the ultimate
mission is to LOVE as He loved us. No matter what
specific task God gives us, the fruit that will determine
who His disciples are - is LOVE.
Personal Sharing: Describe how the fruit of LOVE has
played a part in your personal mission. Have you
experienced "dying or giving your life" for someone
you loved?
Where has God placed you? Ex. Current job, situation,
ministry
Who do you find in your heart to serve? Ex. The poor,
children, wives, professionals, etc
What are your strengths that God can use for your
service? Ex. Speaking, teaching, music, arts,
organizing, intercessory prayers
What past hurt, weakness, experience can God use as
your testimony to others with a similar situation? ex.
broken marriage, failure in career, sin, illness, etc
Use the above to formulate a simple statement of
God's purpose for you at the present time - this may
change over time according to God's plan. Hence the
need to review it from time to time.
