SECTION A (60 Marks)
Answer all questions in this section
1. (a) If m=0.2̇ and n=0. 04̈, show that 𝑚2 = 𝑛(𝑚 + 1).
(b) Round off the following number
(i) 0.267 to nearest tenths
(ii) 17.82 to nearest ones
(iii)63 504 to nearest thousands.

2. (a) Express in the form 𝑎 + 𝑏√𝑐 , where a, b and c are integers.

(b) Mr. Hemed is looking for the error when running the program in his computer, in order the
program to run. The message error when coding shows that, the program may run if the value of x is
known in (log 2 𝑥)(−3 + log 2 𝑥) = 4. What is that?
3. (a) Given the following sets 𝑈 = {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8}, 𝐴 = {3,4,5} 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐵 = {1,2,4,6}.
Show that (𝐴 ∪ 𝐵)Ꞌ = 𝐴ꞌ ∩ 𝐵ꞌ.
(b) A fair die and a fair coin are tossed simultaneously. Find the probability that a number greater than
4 and a tail will appear.
4. (a) Find the coordinates of the vertex D of the quadrilateral A(0,4), B(-4, 7), C(-7, 3) and D. If AD= BC
and D is on the x-axis.
(b) Find the equation of the straight line through the point P(-2, 5) and perpendicular to the line whose
equation is 6𝑥 − 7𝑦 = 4.
5. (a) A woman own a square plot of land 112.5 m long. She wants to plant trees in the entire plot. Each
tree requires 6.25 m2 of land. How many trees can she plant?
(b) The area of a regular 6-sided pilot of a land inscribed in a circular track of radius r is 720 𝑚2 .Find the
radius of the track by rounding off the answer to the nearest:
(i) Tens
(ii) Tenths.
6. (a) The first, second, third and fourth terms are proportional. If the first, second and third terms are 42,
36 and 35 respectively. Find the fourth term.
(b) A precious stone worth 15 600 000 Tanzanian shillings is accidentally dropped and broken into three
pieces. The weights of the pieces are in the proportions of 2: 3: 5 , respectively. If the value of the piece
of stone varies directly as the cube of its weight, calculate the value of the remaining stone in
percentage.
7. (a) A car was bought at Tsh.20 000 000/= and sold at a loss of 25%. Find the loss made and selling price.
(b) Mr. Marco stared a business on 1st May,2024 with a capital in cash of Tsh. 400 000.The Mr. Marco
cash account at the end of the month was as follows:

8. Tusiime Secondary School borrowed a loan from a bank under the condition that, it required to repay
the loan on monthly installment basis. The Tusiime Secondary School repaid 20 000, 22 000,24 000 shillings
for the first, second and third installments respectively until the loan was fully repaid.
(i) If the final monthly installment was 114 000 shillings, how long did the Tusiime Secondary School
take to repay the whole loan?
(ii) Calculate the total amount of loan borrowed.
9. (a) The hypotenuse of an isosceles right-angled triangle is 8 cm. Is there enough information to find the
length of the adjacent sides? If so, find their lengths. If not, explain why not.
(b) Two pegs, P and Q are on the level ground. Both pegs lie due West of a flag post. The angle of
elevation of the top of the flag post from P is 45 0 and from Q is 60 0. If P is 24 m from the foot of
the flag post, find 𝑃𝑄.
10. (a) If 𝑎 ∗ 𝑏 = 𝑎2 − 𝑏, find the value of 𝑥, given that 4 ∗ (2 ∗ 𝑥) = 4
(b) You are asked to think the whole number such that twice its square is 11 more than 21 times the
number. What will be value of that number?
SECTION B (40 Marks)

11. The given frequency distribution table shows the age of 100 children in a certain village.

12. (a) An airplane flies south from (120 N, 360 E) to (70 S ,360 E) in 21 hours. Find its speed, giving your
answer both in nautical miles per hour and in kilometers per hour.
(b) A pipe made of metal 1 cm thick, has an external radius of 6 cm as shown in the figure. Find the
volume of metal used in making a 4 m height of the pipe (use 𝜋 = 3.14).
(c) The volume of a triangular prism is 256 cm3. If its base is an equilateral triangle with sides of length
6cm, calculate the height and the length of the prism.

13. (a) Given that A= [ ] and B= [ ] show that the if the matrix multiplication is commutative or

(b) In a class, there are ten more boys than girls. If there were one more girl, there would be twice as
many boys as girls. Use matrix method to find the number of boys and girls in the class.
(c) Find the equation of the image of the line 𝑦 = 2𝑥 + 5 after a reflection in the line 𝑦 = 𝑥
14. (a) A function is defined by 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥 2 + 1.Find
i. The inverse of 𝑓(𝑥)
ii. The value of 𝑓 −1 (3)
iii. The domain and range of the inverse
(b) A manufacturer has 24, 36 and 18 tons of wood, plastics and steel respectively. To make product A,
it requires 1, 3 and 2 tons of wood, plastic and steel respectively while the product B requires 3, 3 and 1
tons of wood, plastic and steel respectively. Product A sells for 385,500/= and product B sells for
475,500/=.
(i) Formulate a linear programming problem to maximize profit
(ii) How many units of each product should the manufacturer make to obtain the maximum
gross income?
