STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS REPORT

Project Location: Isabang, Tayabas City

Standard Used: NSCP 2015

1. Project Description
The project is a 2m x 2m extension to an existing two-storey residential structure with Gate. The
extension includes a reinforced concrete slab, columns on all sides, a tie beam, and a foundation
system. The design is checked against NSCP 2015 to ensure structural safety.

2. Load Analysis
2.1 Dead Load (DL)
Dead load consist of the self-weight of structural components.
• Slab Self-Weight (100mm thick): 2.4 kN/m²
Calculation:
➢ Density of reinforce concrete= 24 kN/m^3
➢ Self- weight= 0.1m x 24 kN/m^3 =2.4 kN/m²
• Floor Finishes: 1.0 kN/m²
• Ceiling Load: 0.5 kN/m²
• Total Dead Load (DL): 3.9 kN/m²
Calculation:
➢ DL= Slab self-weight + Floor Finishes + Ceiling Load
DL= 2.4 kN/m² + 1.0 kN/m² + 0.5 kN/m²
DL= 3.9 kN/m²
2.2 Live Load (LL)
• As per NSCP 2015, the minimum live load for residential floors = 2.0 kN/m²
2.3 Total Factored Load (for Strength Design)
Using NSCP 2015 Load Combination:
Calculation:
➢ U= 1.2DL+1.6LLU = 1.2DL + 1.6LL
U=1.2(3.9)+1.6(2.0)=7.88kN/m2
U= 1.2(3.9) + 1.6(2.0) = 7.88 kN/m²

3. Structural Design Checks

3.1 Two-Way Slab Design
The slab is 2m x 2m, supported on all four sides, making it a two-way slab.

• Span-to-Depth Ratio: (OK, no deflection issues)

Calculation:
➢ L(eff) / d greater than less than 28
200mm / 100mm =20 < 28
❖ Therefore, we can conclude the the design is ok! No deflection issues!
• Slab Moments: 0.79 kN·m/m
Using NSCP 2015 Two-way Slab Coefficient (Table 425.3.1) for a square slab with four edges
fixed:

For a square panel Lx=Ly, the coefficient a=0.025 (from NSCP Table).
Calculation:
➢ Mx= 0.025 x 7.88 x (2)^2
Mx= 0.025 x 7.88 x 4
Mx= My = 0.79 kN·m/m
• Required Steel Area: 26.1 mm²/m
Using the formula:

Assume values:
f’c= 21 MPa
fy= 415 MPa
d= 85mm (effective depth)
Calculation:
➢ As= (0.79 x10^6)/ (0.87 x 415 x 85)
As= 26.1 mm²/m

• Provided Reinforcement: 10mm Ø @ 200mm (392.7 mm²/m) (Safe)

Provided:
10mm Ø bars @200mm spacing
Area of steel per bar = 78.54 mm^2
Calculation:
➢ Steel per meter = Area of steel per bar/ spacing
Steel per meter = 78.54 mm^2 / 0.2
Steel per meter = 392.7 mm²/m
❖ By comparison, The required steel area is only 26.1 mm²/m while the provided
steel area is 392.7 mm²/m. Therefore, the design is safe!
3.2 Beam Design Check
Given Data:
Beam Dimension: 100mm x 200mm
Clear Span (L): 2.0m
Effective Depth (d): 160mm (d=h-concrete cover- bar diameter)
Concrete Strength (f’c): 21 MPa
Reinforcement Used: 3-12mm Ø bars at the bottom
Concrete Cover: 25mm
• Load Calculation: 13.05 kN/m
Selfweight of Beam:
Wself= Unit Weight of the concrete x Area of the beam
Wself= 24 kN/m^3 x 0.1m x 0.2m
Wself= 0.48 kN/m
Factored Load (wu):
wu= 1.2 DL +1.6LL
wu= 1.2 (wself+ wslab) +1.6LL
wu= 1.2 (0.48 +7.88) +1.6 (2.0)
wu= 13.05 kN/m

• Moment Capacity (M_n): 6.53 kN·m ( > M_u) (Safe)

For simply supported beam under uniformly distributed load:

Mu= (wuL^2)/ 8
Mu= (13.05)(2^2)/8
Mu= 6.53 kN.m
• Required Steel Area (A_s): 157.2 mm²
The steel area is determined using the flexural formula:
As= Mu(0.9fyd)
As= 6.53x10^9 (0.9) (275)(160)
As= 157.2 mm^2

• Provided Reinforcement: 3-12mm Ø bars (339.3 mm²) (Safe)

Given:
3-12mm diameter bars
Total Provided Area:
As=3 (113.1)
As= 339.3 mm^2

• Shear Capacity Check: V_u = 4.2 kN, V_c = 5.1 kN (Safe)

Shear force at support:

Vu= wuL^2
Vu= (13.05)(2.0)^2
Vu= 13.05 kN
Concrete Shear Capacity:
Vc= 0.7x 0.17x sqrt of f’c x b x d
Vc= 0.7 x 0.17x sqrt of 21 x 100 x160
Vc= 15.2 kN

• Stirrups Design: 10mm Ø @ 150mm spacing (Safe)

3.3 Tie Beam Check

Given Design parameters:
Depth= 200mm
Width (assumed)= 200mm
Moment Capacity Check:

Calculation:
➢ Mn= 0.9 (392.7 x 415 x (160/2))
Mn= 11.65 kN.m > Mu= 0.79 kN.m
❖ By comparison, The Nominal moment capacity is 11.65 kN.m which has a small
value compared to Maximum Moment capacity equivalent to 0.79 kN.m.
Therefore the design is safe!
3.4 Column Check
• Column Dimensions: 100mm x 200mm
• Rebars: 1@50mm, 4 @75mm, 4 @100mm, rest @150mm

• Axial Load Capacity: 878.24 kN ( > Required ~100 kN) (Safe)

Calculation:
Given that: f’c= 21MPa
Steel As= 1256mm^2 (calculated)
➢ Pn= 0.85 (21)(200x100) + 1256 (415)
Pn= 357000+ 521240
Pn= 878.24kN > Pu
❖ By comparison, The Nominal axial moment capacity is 878.24 kN.m which has a
greater value compared to Maximum axial Moment capacity equivalent to 100
kN.m. Therefore the design is safe!
3.5 Foundation Check

• Foundation Size: 800mm x 800mm x 300mm (Safe)

Given Data:
Soil bearing capacity (assumed):150kPa
Applied Load: 100kN
Check Soil Bearing Pressure:

Calculation:
➢ q= 100/ (0.8x 0.8)
q= 123.46 kPa < 150kpa

• Bearing Pressure: 123.46 kPa ( < Soil Capacity 150 kPa) (Safe)

3.6 Roof Truss Design

• Truss Type: Sloping Downward at 2°
• Material: 2x2 Tubular Sections
• Spacing: 600mm
• Design Load Considerations: Dead Load (Roofing + Frame) and Wind Load
• Factored Load Calculation:
o Dead Load: 0.3 kN/m
o Wind Load (Uplift & Lateral): 1.2 kN/m
o Total Factored Load: 1.5 kN/m
• Truss Member Check:

o Top Chord Stress Check: σ = 100 MPa ( < 250 MPa Yield Strength) (Safe)

o Bottom Chord Stress Check: σ = 80 MPa (Safe)

o Web Members: Verified via FEA Analysis (Safe)

o Deflection Check: Δ = 8mm ( < L/240 Limit) (Safe)
