ASSIGNMENT_3.2 - DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES II
Groups of not more than 10 students.
Annexes, refer in the reference book. ‘Reinforced concrete design to Eurocode 2 , by Bill Mosley, et al. , Seventh
edition’
The floor system of an office building is to be designed as a flat slab. The columns are spaced
at 5m and 6m North-South and in East-West directions respectively. The slab supports a
variable load of 5 kN/m2. The characteristic material strengths are fck = 25 N/mm2 for the
concrete, and fyk = 500 N/mm2 for the reinforcement. The slab thickness is 270mm and is
supported by columns with square column heads 1.5m wide. The floor system has 4 spans
in each direction.
a. Design the reinforced concrete flat slab for bending. Consider interior panels.
b. Check the slab for shear.
c. Check the slab for deflection.
