Grilles and Registers

Introduction
The design of Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
system is both an art and science. To be successful, an HVAC
engineer or designer should become well versed in the
phenomena affecting system performance. Supply air outlets
allow conditioning and or ventilating air into a space from
ductworks or plenums, where return air inlets allow air to leave
a space. The style & construction of Air terminals varies
considerably from model to model with features of each may
be somewhat unique, especially when intended for special
applications.

Supply Air Grilles & Registers

Supply air grilles are normally used in high sidewalls or
fur-downs due to their long , often limited-direction , throws
except in very tall spaces or where attached to the side of
exposed round or rectangular ducts. Fixed, straight-bladed
supply air grilles tend to produce very long throws with a lower
rate of spreading ensuring even air distribution. Angled blades
can send the jet in the desired direction or, when specified
with two or more deflection directions , create more spread
and reduced throw. These are known as Single-deflection
and double-deflection, respectively, in the trade. Adjustable
blades allow the installers, TAB personal, and end users to
adjust the air direction and spread of the grilles.

The blades or bars of grilles are often formed from flat or

curved single thickness material. But when optimal flow &
acoustical performance are desired, aerofoil-shaped blade
grille should be recommended. Also two perpendicular layers
of fixed or adjustable louvers, bars , or blades may be
employed to provide more horizontal or vertical deflection
choices. Perforated metal faces are occasionally used for
supply grilles but are more often used in return grilles & supply
diffusers. Registers (Supply grille with damper) give occupants
some control over the flow rates of the air that are admitted to
spaces to improve comfort or reduce the energy costs. Small ,
low-cost commercial buildings often employ registers when
utilize residential-like HVAC systems. But for conventional
engineered commercial, institutional or industrial HVAC
systems allowing users to randomly adjust the flow rates is
detrimental to the air balance of the system. Extreme results of
improper registers use can be, for example freezing of the
cooling coil, furnace bonnet failure, supply air fan surge, or
pressure damage to the ducts. Whistling from closed
registers can occur. And delivery of the required ventilation air
will be restricted . Therefore, use of register-type outlets in
engineered ducted air distribution systems is not
recommended. Limited-access balancing dampers in the
ductwork upstream of the air outlets are normally provided
instead of allow adjustment of the airflows by TAB personnel.
But where the air balance is of little concern, registers are a
lowcost way of providing some user control.

Combination Grilles with Perforated Front Panel Introduction
Standard Model : Cosmos provides a complete line of filter grilles that include
louvered, cubed core and perforated face. All filter grilles are
CG - SS - PF, CG - SS - PF - D, designed for either 25 mm or 50 mm thick filters and include a
CG - SS - PF - 25 - D hinged face for filter access. These grilles are available in
aluminium, steel and stainless steel construction and are an
CG - PF, CG - PF - D, excellent choice for exhaust and return applications. Also
CG - PF - 25 - D offers a variety of functional and aesthetic grilles and registers
designed for air distribution and filtering for standard to
heavy-duty applications.

General Product Information

 Series CG Extruded Combination Grilles and Registers are suitable for ceiling, sidewall or sill installation.

 Minimum nominal width = 50mm

 Maximum nominal width = 600mm

 Available in 50mm nominal increments in width and 25mm in length.

 Maximum single section length = 2000mm.

 Multiple - section assemblies are provided with alignment strips.

 Finish: Powder coated finish RAL - 9016

 Standard coating thickness - 55 microns.

Prefilters Descripition
Model No. - CPF - B, CPF - F The Pre-Filters are filters composed of a progressive structure
of polyester synthetic fibres suitable for low to medium
efficiency air filtration in HVAC systems. Pre filters are
responsible for filtering out the particulate in air before it gets
Pre Filter- Box Type to the AHU or surrounding. The filter medium is available in a
G4 rating and is manufactured from bonded synthetic fibres.

COSMOS model OBD opposed blade dampers ( collar
dampers ) are commonly used as a volume control device in
supply, return and exhaust air systems.

Opposed blade dampers are mounted directly behind the

supply, return or exhaust air diffuser and provide the ability to
be manually adjusted through the face of the diffuser.

COSMOS model OBD is the extruded aluminium opposed

blade volume control damper without powder coated finish.
And model OBD-PC is the extruded aluminium opposed
blade volume control damper with powder coated finish.

quiet operation & to avoid rattling noise.
 Gang operated opposed blades.
