This supplement must be attached to the appropriate FAA Approved Robinson R44
Rotorcraft Flight Manual when the Apollo Spray Systems Model DTM-4 Spray System is
installed in accordance with Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) No SR01215CH. The
information contained in this document supplements or supersedes the basic manual only in
those areas listed herein. For limitations, emergency procedures, normal procedures, and
performance information not contained in this supplement, consult the basic FAA Approved
Rotorcraft Flight Manual.

SECTION 1: GENERAL

SECTION 2: LIMITATIONS

A. Airspeed Limitations
VNE = 85 KIAS or lower speed as limited by the basic Rotorcraft Flight Manual.

Spraying at airspeeds below 20 knots prohibited. Spraying prohibited while hovering


or in sideward or rearward flight.

B. Weight Limits
Helicopter empty weight: shall include the weight of the spray system. Spray load
shall be limited so that the maximum allowable gross weight from the basic RFM is
not exceeded.

C. Density Limits TABLE 2.1

E. Kinds of Operations Limitations


a) Operation with the DTM-4 spray system installed is approved for Normal
Category. No persons other than the minimum required crew shall be carried during
spray operation.

WARNING
USE OF SPRAY LIQUIDS HAVING A
FLASH POINT LOWER THAN KEROSENE IS PROHIBITED

F. Placards
The following placards must be placed as indicated when the DTM-4 spray system is
installed:

a) Mounted adjacent to the spray electrical control switch on the cyclic in clear view
of the pilot and 2) mounted on the circuit breaker panel:

b) On transponder equipped helicopters only, mounted on the face of the


transponder in clear view of the pilot:

G. Ground Clearance
Minimum clearance between the lowest point of frame assembly and the ground
shall be 6.50 inches. If ground clearance is less than 6.50 inches the main landing
gear “cross tubes” must be replaced prior to further spray service

SECTION 3: EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Main Spray Valve Fails To Close:


Indicated by failure of spray to stop when SPRAY switch returned to off position.
1. When safe and practical, pull SPRAY circuit breaker.
2. Close SPRAY THROTTLE completely to stop pump motor.

Fire on the Pump Motor: Rotor wash should keep fire from the airframe.
1. Close SPRAY THROTTLE completely to idle motor.
2. Land as soon as practical and use extinguisher to put fire out.

SECTION 4: NORMAL PROCEDURES

Daily or preflight checks: Add the following items:

SECTION 4: NORMAL PROCEDURES (Cont)

MOTOR OPERATION

TO START PUMP MOTOR - Open FUEL shutoff valve, close choke, crack throttle and pull rope vigorously.
When warm, open choke.

TO STOP MOTOR - Close throttle all of the way.


Turn shutoff switch to OFF

CRUISE:
To spray, activate the boom valve with the “spray” switch on the
cyclic control. Stop the spray by returning the switch to the off position.

SHUT-DOWN PROCEDURE:
If danger of freezing temperatures exists, drain spray system by removing tank sump plug, the lower
pump plug, each outboard nozzle check valve and one check valve from the lowest nozzle on the
center boom.

SECTION 5: PERFORMANCE

The basic climb performance of the R44 will be reduced by 450 ft/min. when the DTM-4 spray system is
installed.
