AUTOMATED LIQUID HAND

SOAP DISPENSER SYSTEM

USING ARDUINO AT AICS-
MONTALBAN
Presented by Group 2
CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND IT’S

BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
Automatic liquid soap dispensers reduce hand contact and
ensure efficient soap use. However, misuse can lead to excessive
consumption. To address this, a system has been developed with
an Arduino Uno, Infrared Sensor, Servo Motor, and a Buzzer. It
monitors soap usage and alerts users via an LCD Display when
too much soap is dispensed, promoting responsible consumption
and conserving soap for future use.
BACKGROUND
Proper hygiene is important to prevent the spread of bacteria and
reduce the possibility of cross-contamination, especially in public
places like schools

One of the most effective ways to avoid illness is through proper

hand washing. However, traditional soap dispensers often require
manual handling and need direct contact, which can contribute to
the spread of germs.

The interview results indicate a 100% consensus among the 20

student respondents, with all participants expressing positive
agreement regarding the implementation of automated liquid hand
soap dispensers
As for the administrator, having a hand soap dispenser in the school's
comfort room can be efficient if it's maintained well. It serves as an effective
way to prevent the spread of germs and promote cleanliness among the
students, teachers, and custodians.

This study aims to provide a hands-free, efficient, and sustainable way to

promote hand hygiene within the school. With the help of Arduino
technology, the system will dispense the right amount of liquid hand soap to
avoid excessive use of it and ensure that there is enough for everyone.
Moreover, it will raise awareness about the importance of proper hygiene
within the AICS-Montalban.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The researchers will address the following problems:

1.The absence of proper hygiene practices in comfort rooms,

particularly poor handwashing, contributes to the spread of bacteria and
illnesses.

2.Poor hygiene and sanitation increase the health risks for students,
teachers, and staff.

3.Existing hygiene practices are not enough to prevent contamination,

and better solutions are needed to improve handwashing and overall
sanitation.
OBJECTIVES
To design and develop an automated hand soap dispenser using Arduino
technology for reducing manual contact that will minimize the spread of
germs.
To provide a sustainable solution for hand hygiene that enhances public
health awareness among students, teachers, and the custodians at AICS-
Montalban.

To develop an automated self-dispenser that accurately dispenses the

correct amount of soap and warns the user if they overused the system,
minimizing waste and promoting efficient usage.

SCOPE
Focus:
The study focuses on designing and developing an automated
liquid hand soap dispenser system to promote hygiene and reduce
the spread of germs within the school community.

Scope:
The system features an LCD I2C Display and a Buzzer to alert users
if they overuse the dispenser, activating a 30-second cooldown.
The website provided to the custodians can manually dispense the
liquid soap and turn on/off the servo motor.
LIMITATIONS

The study is limited to the students, teachers, and custodians of AICS-

Montalban and excludes users from other schools.

The system has limited functionality, such as:

It can only warn users of overuse through an LCD I2C Display and a
Buzzer, but cannot identify who activated the warning.
The system features a 30-second cooldown, which might be exploited,
and it does not notify custodians directly when over.

CHAPTER V

DISCUSSION, CONCLUSION, AND

RECOMMENDATIONS
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the research findings highlight the lack of proper hygiene in the
school’s comfort rooms. This highlights the need for immediate action to address
this issue. The poor hygiene in the school’s comfort rooms can lead to the spread of
germs, potentially impacting the health and well-being of the students, teachers, and
custodians.

To address this issue, the researchers developed an automated liquid hand soap
dispenser, a device designed to offer a touch-free handwashing experience, making
it both efficient and convenient for its users. The system also includes a warning
feature that warns the users whenever they’ve overused the dispenser. It utilizes a
sensor to release a predetermine amount of liquid soap, helping to reduce waste
and promote better hygiene practices.
CONCLUSION
Through testing and feedback, the system is proven to be an effective solution for
hand washing, as it helps to minimize the spread of germs and promote good
hygiene practices by providing an efficient and convenient handwashing experience.
Additionally, the warning feature helps in preventing excessive soap usage by
alerting the user when they have abused the system, promoting efficient soap use
and reducing waste. However, the warning feature can be hindered by those users
who are illiterate and disobedient.

By implementing this device, the school can make basic hand hygiene more
available and useful. Students, teachers, and custodians will have a more safe and
healthier hand washing experience.
