Lesson: Jesus Turned Water into Wine

Reference: John 2:1-11

Memory Verse: Psalms 48:1

T: Can I request (student) to lead our opening prayer.

S: (Leads: In the name of Jesus, O heavenly father, we ask you to please help us to know more
about Jesus. We thank you for giving us this chance to learn about him. Amen)

T: Please be seated. Before we start with our lesson today, who memorized our memory verse
already?

S: Me teacher! (Psalms 48:1)

T: Okay so for our lesson today is about the miracle of Jesus. Are you ready to listen to the first
miracle of Jesus?

S: Yes teacher!

T: This is a true event told by the Apostle John from the book of John chapter 2. Let us read.

S: (Read)

T: There was a marriage feast in a place called Cana. Jesus, Mary, and the disciples were
invited. In a big feast like marriage feast, the host (the one who invites) prepares the food and
wine so that the people will be happy to celebrate the wedding. When the people were
already eating, the wine ran out. There was no more wine. Perhaps Mary was a relative of the
one who got married. She noticed that they had no more wine. It would be great shame if they
had no more wine when there are those who must still be eating. So she whispered to Jesus,
They have no more wine.” Mary felt that Jesus could do things that nobody knew about, but
Jesus said, “This is not yet my hour.” Mary knew that whatever Jesus would say must be
obeyed, so she told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you to do”. What did Mary say to the
servants?

S: Do whatever He tells you to do

T: Jesus told the servants to fill the water pots with water. The servants obeyed. After they
filled the water pots with water, Jesus said, “Draw out now and bring to the governor of the
feast”. When the ruler of the feast tasted it, it was the best wine he ever tasted. It was a
miracle that Jesus did. He made the water into wine so that the newlywed will not be ashamed
before all the guests. It is just like, it would be very embarrassing, if we invite guests to our
birthday party and there is not enough food. So Jesus performed His first miracle there in that
wedding party.

Conclusion and Application

T: Do you think Jesus will let us go hungry without food, if we ask him for our food every day?

S: No, teacher.

T: Do you think Jesus can still do great things today if we ask Him?

S: Yes, teacher.

T: So next time I will tell you about the second miracle of Jesus. Let us thank God for telling us
in the bible that Jesus can do anything. So let us all pray, everybody close your eyes and bow
down your heads. (Closing prayer)
