- DEVELOPING YOUR IDEAS: your reasoned argument about a given topic

Opinion, explanation and example

REASONED ARGUMENT:

1. Your viewpoint: main point or idea. Your point of view


2. Your reasoning: explanation
3. Your evidence: example

STRUCTURE AN ARGUMENT

1. Introduction: what I’m going to argue.


2. Main body 1. Answer q1: First reasoned argument.
3. Main body 2. Answer q2: Second reasoned argument.
4. Conclusion: my point of view and summary of arguments.

INTRODUCTION
 Introduce the argument you are going to make.
 Make it easy for the reader to understand what the topic is and what your
viewpoint is
 The reasoning then comes in the main body. It is simply to help the reader.

PARTS OF AN INTRODUCTION

1. Question analysis: think about the question, what does it actually mean
When we see the question we have to think about the general topic. WE DO
NOT WRITE ABOUT THE GENERAL TOPIC. Think about it an the specific key
words about the questions
Look at the instruction words
2. Idea generation: the most important thing is to keep it simple. The simplest,
most straightforward answer is the best.
 What is the simplest idea? = easy to write about and to understand
 If were arguing with someone, what would your main point be?
 ATGUMENT METTHOD: if you were making an argument, what would be your
main point? Do not try think of many different ideas, just 1.
GOOD IDEA: easy to understand, relevant (answer specific information): and
reasonable, use reasons to support your argument.
This is when we start writing:

different words.
 By using synonyms
 By changing the structure of the sentence
Don´t change every single word or change word incorrectly.
Keep the grammar good.
