Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

The document provides an overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI), defining it as the development of machines that can perform tasks requiring human intelligence. It distinguishes between Narrow AI, which focuses on specific tasks, and General AI, which aims for human-level cognitive functions. Additionally, it explains the relationship between AI, Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL), highlighting their roles in mimicking human intelligence and behavior.

What is AI: Artificial Intelligence

● Artificial intelligence (AI) is a wide-ranging branch of computer science
concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that
typically require human intelligence.
○ Build machines that think like Humans .
○ Machines behave like Humans .
○ React like Humans .

● AI as simply "building machines that are intelligent"

● AI is a computer system able to perform tasks that ordinarily require human

intelligence…

● The goals of AI: a learning machine that can evolve and make its own decisions.
3

Artificial + Intelligence

Artificial defines "man-made," and intelligence defines

"thinking power", hence

AI = "a man-made thinking power."

Why Artificial intelligence ?

● To solve real-world problems.
● health issues, marketing, traffic issues, Big data problems ….

What is intelligence ?
● Intelligence is an intangible part of our brain.

● which is a combination of Reasoning, learning, problem-solving perception,

language understanding, etc.

Example :
Can you give me the answer?
5

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE EXAMPLES :

● Smart assistants (like Siri and Alexa)
6
7

● Manufacturing and drone robots

● Disease mapping and prediction tools

● Optimized, personalized healthcare treatment recommendations.

● Robo-advisors for stock trading.

● Google search

● Image recognition software.

● Self-driving cars.

● Data Analysis
8

● AI in Gaming.

● AI in Agriculture.

● AI in E-commerce.

● Any others… …?

● can we use AI in education… ?

9

Goals of Artificial intelligence :

● Replicate human intelligence

● Solve Knowledge-intensive tasks.

● Building a machine with human perception.

● Creating some system which can exhibit intelligent behavior, learn new things by
itself, demonstrate, explain, and can advise its user.

AI Types : Artificial intelligence generally falls under

two broad categories:

● Narrow AI

● General AI

Narrow AI:
● Narrow AI: Sometimes referred to as " Weak AI ,".
● Designed to solve one single problem.
● Narrow AI is often focused on performing a single task extremely well.
● like recommending a product for an e-commerce user or predicting the weather.

A few examples of Narrow AI include:

● Google search
10

● Image recognition software

● Siri, Alexa and other personal assistants
● Self-driving cars

General AI :
● Artificial General Intelligence (AGI):
● AGI, sometimes referred to as "Strong AI,"
● AI which has a human-level of cognitive function,
● such as language processing, image processing, computational functioning and
reasoning.
● It is the kind of artificial intelligence we see in the movies, like the robots from
Westworld or Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Artificial intelligence - Machine Learning - Deep Learning

Relations Between AI-ML-DL

"AI" is the overarching term, "ML" (machine learning) is a subset of AI, and
"DL" (deep learning) is a further specialized subset within ML,
12

Artificial Intelligence (AI): Developing machines to mimic human

intelligence and behaviour.
Machine Learning (ML): Algorithms that learn from structured data to
predict outputs and discover patterns in that data.
Deep Learning (DL): Algorithms based on highly complex neural
networks that mimic the way a human brain works to detect patterns
in large unstructured data sets.

How can we transfer human intelligence to machines?

Answer = applying algorithms & techniques

Machine Learning Techniques will give answers to this question… ...
