● Due to gross deficiency of vitamin C
● characterized by :- sore and spongy gums

● Infantile scurvy or Barlow’s disease
Hemorrahagic tendency
● Collagen formed is abnormal
● Leading to tendency to bleed even under minor
pressure.
● Petechia may be seen in mild deficiency
conditions.
● Ecchymosis or even hematoma in severe
conditions.
Oral Cavity
● Gingivitis and Bleeding gums
● Gums can become painful, swollen, and
spongy.
● Pulp is separated from the dentine and finally
teeth are lost.
Bones
● Vitamin C deficiency can lead to weak bones.
● More chance for fractures.
● Hemorrhage into joint cavities.
● Painful swelling of joints may prevent
locomotion.
Nails
● Spoon-Shaped and concave nails.
● Thin and brittle
● Splinter Hemorrhage – Red spots or lines in
nail bed
Anemia
● Microcytic hypochromic anemia
● Poikilocytosis , anisocytosis
