Formatting your Concert Report
Clearly list the works you listened to. Underline the big titles, put the titles of
movements or specific songs within the work in quotes, and specify the composerʼs
name.
For example,
 - Mozartʼs Bassoon Concerto in B-flat major, KV 191
 - “Waltz of the Flowers” from Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky
Formatting your Concert Report, cont’d
Comment on the works in terms of both musical elements and performance elements
to the best of your ability.
Finish your report with some general reactions. Some examples questions that may be
able to guide you are as follows:
Were there new things that you learned from listening to these works? Were you
disappointed or pleasantly surprised by any of the performances, and why? For staged
music, how did the music and the story-telling work together? How did the
dancers/singers enhance the story-telling through their performance choices?
How to write your Concert Report
Option 1: Option 2:
List all the works at the start of the Name each work in each paragraph,
report, comment on each work with subsequent comments on the
afterward in one paragraph each. works.
Final reminders
 - Use complete sentences.
 - Check your spelling and grammar. Proofread.
 - A long report is seldom a good report. Two to three handwritten pages in your Music
Book (without skipping lines) is a good length.
 - When commenting on a performer, address him/her/the group by name.
Most importantly:
 - Write your report within a day of the concert so it is still fresh in your memory.
