ABREVIATIONS (US TERMS)

MR – magic ring
SC – single crochet
Inc – increase (2 sc in one stitch,
unless stated otherwise)
3 sc inc - 3 sc into one stitch
Dec – decrease
DC – double crochet
HDC –half double crochet
Ch.st – chain stitch
sl.st. – slip stitch
MAKING HEAD
Crochet from the top to the bottom with a “seam method” (chain st at the
beginning of the round, slip stitch at the end). This is needed to place the cheeks
symmetrically and it makes the design of the snout easy)
1. 6 sc in MR
Please note that due to yarn thickness
2. 6 inc (12) and crochet tension, stitches can move.
3. (3 inc, 3 sc)*2 (18) All the increases and decreases of the
4. 2 sc, 3 inc, 6 sc, 3 inc, 4 sc (24) body and head are made on the sides.
5. 4 sc, 3 inc, 9 sc, 3 inc, 5 sc (30) Make additional stitches, if needed.
2.
6.-10. (5 rows) 30 sc
11. 7 sc, 2 inc, 13 sc, 2 inc, 6 sc (34)
12. 14 sc, 7 sl.st., 13 sc
13. 34 sc
14. 4 sl st, 5 half-double crochet
decreases (i.e. yarn over before the
decrease and next proceed decreasing as
usual), 7 sl st, 5 hdc dec, 3 sl sl (24)

crochet these two loops together, next

crochet 3 stitches together.

HDC decrease: yarn over, insert the hook

into two loops (front loops)

15. 4 sc, skip 5 sts, 7 sc, skip 5 sts, 3 sc

(14)
Begin stuffing the head. Stuff tightly and
distribute the filler evenly inside the head.
3.
Next you can crochet in a spiral:
16. dec, 10 sc, dec (12)
17. dec, 10 sc (11)
18. dec, 9 sc (10)
19. dec, 8 sc (9)
20. dec, 7 sc (8)
21. dec, 6 sc (7)
22. dec, 5 sc (6)
Stuff up to the end, cut the thread and
pull the hole shut.

Make a light tightening of the trunk: run

the needle through the hole and MR at
the top of the head and pull (thus the
trunk will dip inside). As the result you
should get a slightly bended trunk.
Make 2 or 3 knots and start sewing the
cheeks.

4.
Sew them shut
through the front loops

We will run all the remaining tails through

the top of the head and cut them there thus
making the crest.

MAKING EARS
Making an outer part of the ear (2 parts with turquoise yarn). Leave tails
measuring around 0.5 m (0.54 yds) – we will make slip stitches along the ear.
In turning rows:
1. Make a chain of 6 sts, in the 2'nd chain
from hook make 5 sc
2. Chain st., 1 sc, inc, 1 sc, inc, 1 sc (7)
3. Chain st.,1 sc, inc, 3 sc, inc, 1 sc (9)
4. Chain st., 1 sc, inc, 5 sc, inc, 1 sc (11)
5. Chain st., 3 sc, 2 sl st, 3 hdc, 3 dc,
make 2 chain sts and slip st in the last st.

5.
Cut the yarn and leave a tail long
enough to be able to hide it inside the
head.
Crochet along the ears with slip sts
(skip the lower part of the ear.
Determine the tension and the amount
of slip stitches by yourself – if you need
to make the tip of the ear more rounded,
crochet tightly and make less sl sts.

Here is what you’ve got

Inner part of the ear (2 parts with white yarn) We will not crochet along here,
leave a tail for sewing long enough to be able to sew it to the outer part of the
ear and to the head.
In turning rows:
1. Make a chain of 6 sts, 5 sc in the
2'nd st from hook.
2. Chain st., 1 sc, inc, 1 sc, inc, 1 sc (7)
3. Chain st., 2 sc, 1 sl st, 2 hdc, 2 dc,
make two 2 chain sts and sl st in the last
stitch.
Cut the yarn.
6.
Sew or glue the inner white part to the outer part. Make sure that the wide
parts of the inner ear and outer ear match, the same for the narrow parts.
If you’ve preferred to sew the parts, try not to run the white yarn on the
wrong side of the outer ear, it will not look good. Sew with any type of stitches
you like, you can leave the lower parts of the ears as they are, we will need them
to attach to the head.

7.
Pin the ears to the head and sew circle-wise. Inner side at first, next the
outer side. Weave all threads inside the top of the head. Leave one white tail to
design the eyes.

8.
Design the snout: cut off a little stems of the eyes (they are too long for the
brooch) and glue the eyes on. Make stitches around eyes on the side for a more
lively look. Embroider the eyebrows and mouth using a 2-stranded black mouline
thread.

MAKING BODY AND LEGS

In a spiral:
1. 6 sc in MR
2. 6 inc (12)
3. 4. 12 sc
Cut the yarn and crochet the 2'nd leg. Next, do not cut the yarn and make 2
chain sts. Join legs. I join with the help of sc (without any sl st)
5. i.e. I make a sc at once, next 11 sc across the leg, 2 sc across the chain, 12
sc across the 2'nd leg, 2 sc across the other side of the chain. (28)
9.
6.- 8. (3 rounds) 28 sc
9. 6 sc, dec, 12 sc, dec, 6 sc (26)
10. 6 sc, dec, 11 sc, dec, 5 sc (24)
11. 5 sc, dec, 10 sc, dec, 5 sc (22)
12. 5 sc, dec, 9 sc, dec, 4 sc (20)
13. 4 sc, dec, 8 sc, dec, 4 sc (18)
14. 4 sc, dec, 7 sc, dec, 3 sc (16)
15. 3 sc, dec, 6 sc, dec, 3 sc (14)
Leave a tail to attach the head and the
brooch pin, cut. Stuff and sew the hole
shut.

10.
Attach the head with such joining stitches. Next secure the
thread at the trunk
area so that the
head doesn’t
dangle.

attach
the pin

MAKING ARMS (2)

In a spiral
1. 8 sc in MR
2. 8 sc through the back loops
3. - 6. (4 rounds) 8 sc
7. (2 sc, dec)*2 (6)
Slightly stuff. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail
for sewing. Pull the hole shut.
I attach by a thread joint method to make
the arms move. You can just sew it as it
is. Don’t forget to leave some space for
the neck)) You can find a video about
how to sew here
11.
Add some red color to the cheeks and
brown to the base of ears. Brooch is
ready! Hope you are happy with the
result. Please share photos of your
works and the feedback about the
pattern with me, and tag your photos by
