This assignment encourages you to understand, interpret, and explain the key ideas of a
book while reflecting on its meaning and relevance through critical thinking.
1. Select a book with your teacher’s approval.
2. Read it at least twice to grasp its key messages and themes.
3. Summarize and explain the book’s central ideas in a 600-word review.
4. Present your review in class, sharing what you understood and how it influenced
your thinking.
This task helps you connect with a book on a deeper level by interpreting its ideas and
relating them to your own understanding. Writing and presenting your review will allow you
to clarify concepts, express your thoughts, and apply critical thinking to engage in
meaningful discussions.
How: Guidelines for writing a Book Review
For writing a book review following points should be focused:
1. Pre-introduction of the book
Title, subtitle, cover page, publication year and place, category of the book, press
reviews/recommendations for the book
2. Introduction/ background of the author
Major expertise and research of the author, organization and country the author belongs to,
any other aspect of author’s life that is worth mentioning, other books of the author, to
whom the book is dedicated, the person who wrote foreword, any special acknowledgement
3. About the book
• What has made author write this book?
• What is the key idea of this book? Describe briefly about the main theme of the book.
• What is author’s personal view point about the book?
• Organizational structure of the book, style of writing, language and your opinion on these
aspects
• Strengths, weaknesses and interesting features of the book
• Your opinion about the book. If there are any ideas/themes with which you disagree?
• Include excerpts from the book (max. two) to support your claim in favor/ against the
author’s perspective
• Your opinion about the book
4. Recommendation for reading
• Who should read this book?
• Why this book should be read?
