Welding Proceedure Project

The project requires the creation of a welding procedure specification and data sheet based on CSA W47.1 and CSA W59 standards, focusing on prequalified welding processes such as GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW. Students must select a prequalified joint and use materials available in the welding lab, while also researching necessary welding parameters. The final submission must include a cover page and be submitted digitally via D2L.

CSA W47.1/W59 Welding Procedure Project 15%

Overview

Using your knowledge of CSA W47.1 and CSA W59, produce a welding procedure specification and welding procedure
data sheet that can be used for the criteria below. You will be required to use your codebooks to search for prequalified
criteria as well as recall your knowledge from welding processes in the shop. This project is to be completed individually.

Welding Processes

Welding processes will be limited to those covered in WDSG 235/275. GMAW, FCAW, SMAW and GTAW. You may create
a procedure which uses both if you wish. Ensure that you properly address all required criteria for the chosen
process(es).

Joint Preparation

Choose any prequalified joint from CSA W59 Figure 10.1 or Figure 10.2. It can be either complete or partial penetration.
Make sure all requirements of the prequalified joint are addressed and met in your procedures.

Materials

The materials used for construction and referenced in the required documentation must reflect what is actually
available in our welding lab. This includes:

• Base Materials: 1/8” – 1/2” ASTM A36 Plate (Steel Group 1 in Table 11.1)

• Filler Materials: GMAW: E70S-6, FCAW: E70T-6, SMAW: E6010, E7018. GTAW: ER70S-2

• Shielding Gases (if applicable): 100% Argon, 95% Argon 5% CO2 Mixed, 75% Argon 25% CO2 Mixed.

• Any other materials used in construction

Welding Parameters

Welding parameters must be researched when creating these procedures. Recall information from your time in the
welding shop or resources from other classes. This includes:

• Amperage

• Current Polarity

• Welding Speed

• Number of Passes
