6.3 PREPARATION PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION

 Confirm that relevant IFC drawings are of the latest edition, and also study thoroughly all of
the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
 The area has to be released from Civil/structural with a certificate of client quality inspection.
 Check the progress of the structural and civil construction work in accordance with the
planned schedule to see if it has met the requirements for proceeding with the electrical
work.
 Check and verify the specification, quantities, package numbers, equipment number,
accessories, etc. of the required equipment and materials at the warehouse and equipment
storage yard.
 Prepare and check the required safety facilities and personal protective equipment. Prepare
the scaffolding which shall be inspected by scaffolding inspector personal prior to usage for
elevated work.
 Prepare the construction equipment and power source for drilling and cutting.
 Prepare the construction consumables such as cutting machine, drilling machine, touch up
paint and level etc.

6.4 INSTALLATION OF CABLE TRAY

 Prepare all the necessary materials/tools required and find the required elevation from to the
bottom of the cable tray and establish a level line (Refer IFC Drawings for Elevation).
 Support may be installed first at each, from wall penetration to offset location install supports
as closed as possible on 90-degree bends, offsets, tee/cross branches, change of level, etc. to
ensure rigidity and firm holding of loads.
 Cable Tray material shall be Hot dip galvanised steel.
 Material for Unistrut channel, bolt, washer, spring nut, hold down clamp should be of Mill
Galvanized Steel.
 Support and Unistrut Channel for Cable Tray Installation at Ceiling of Trench and at Floor Slab
shall be properly fastened and the minimum required size. Thickness of unistrut channel must
be 41*41*2 mm.
 In Vertical support for cable tray, the Unistrut channel post base shall be fixed with power
actuated fasteners.

 Mounting of Hanging unistrut support channel in cable trench ceiling shall be fixed with two or four
hole post base and finally fixed to the ceiling with M10 Anchor expansion bolts. Two hole post base
is used for two run of cable tray and four hole post base is used for three run of cable tray.

 location of supports for cable trays and ladders system shall be in accordance with the
drawings and recommendations of the manufacturer. Splices (joints) shall not be located
over supports, and shall be located at every 1 mtr.
 Location of cable tray supports shall be 1.5 meter vertical and 2 meter horizontal.
 MV Cables shall be supported at every 1 meter intervals by unistrut support.
 While installing cable tray supports, splices shall be located taking into account the above
points. The installation shall accommodate thermal expansion joints of cable trays.
 Perforated type cable tray shall be only used for Communication and Fiber Optics cable and

shall be always placed on the top side.

 Inspect for correct and firm installation of supports. Drill holes for splice plate in field-cut
cable trays. Locate the hole positions using splice plate as a template.
 Rubber pad or grommet is used at the sharp edge and especially where there is cable transits.
 Make a square cut of cable tray to ensure a good splice connection. After cutting, smooth
the cut of cable tray edges to remove any burrs.
 Carefully lift tray individually, and place it unto the support, check alignment of tray using
level bar before fixing it with hold down clamp. Check allowances of tray in the support.
 For any cut edges and screw connection, touch-up will be applied as per approved paint
materials.
 While installing cables, care will be taken not to exceed the rated load capacity of the cable
trays and ladders.
 All Cable trays shall be identified by tag numbers and marked identifying the cables
enclosed as per specifications. Cable identifications tags will be fixed.
 Cable trays inside substation buildings shall be installed with a maintained distance between
cable tray and side, top and bottom of wall and ceiling.

 As per cable size cleats shall used to secure, fix and route electrical cables in the positions required
as per approved drawing.
 For cable cleats installation, after installation of duct bank, first we shall make markings for it as per
drawing and make 4 holes for expansion anchor bolts.
 Then we will install post base and support which should be straight.
 In case of any cross section then it will be adjusted as per site.

 Power actuated fasteners are used for post base.

 Grounding should be done at the both ends off the cable tray and must be bonded between
the cable tray and expansion joint by 50 sq mm bare copper cable.
 All cable shall be suitably fastened to the cable tray every 1.80 meter on horizontal runs and
1.5 meter vertical runs both horizontal and vertical bends.
 Openings around electrical penetrations through fire-resistant-rated walls, partitions, floors,
