Purpose:
Somerset Academy, Inc. promotes a transformational culture that maximizes student

Math Course Overview: Cambridge Mathematics 1 includes a study of concepts and skills
given in units, which are listed below:
Unit 1 - Numbers Unit 5 - Equations and Inequalities
Unit 2 - Numbers Operations Unit 6 - Relationships in Geometry
Unit 3 - Proportionality: Ratios and Rates Unit 7 - Measurement and Data
Unit 4 - Equivalent Expressions

WHAT IS THE FOCUS OF THE CAMBRIDGE PROGRAM AT SOMERSET PARKLAND
ACADEMY?
The Cambridge courses at our school aim to assist students in becoming productive contributors
to society. Each course makes continuous connections between the curriculum taught in class and
the global and social issues surrounding us.
WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT THE CAMBRIDGE PROGRAM AT SOMERSET PARKLAND
ACADEMY?
The Cambridge program is distinctive because it is the only Cambridge Cohort in the Parkland
area. The program instills higher-level critical thinking skills, develops 21st Century skills, and
promotes global citizenship. In addition to the world recognized Cambridge curriculum,
Cambridge students participate in project based learning and integrated curriculum units. Their
learning experiences are supplemented with various field trip opportunities which have been
carefully selected to expand their depth of knowledge.

Cambridge Mathematics Project Based Learning
Students will be required to complete two math projects within the Cambridge Math Class.
Quarter 2 - Buying A Car Math Project (PPT)
Quarter 4 - Future Entrepreneur Math Project
Detailed information will be provided in quarter 2 and 4.
Guidelines for Success
1. Be responsible and proactive.
2. Cooperate with others.
3. Always try to do your best.
4. Treat everyone, including yourself with respect.
Class Rules/Procedures
1. Be on time in your assigned seat and prepared to work when the bell rings.
2. Show respect to your teacher, others, and yourself.
3. Remain in your designated group area and work productively throughout the period.
4. Listen and follow directions.
5. All food and drinks should remain outside of the classroom. You may bring bottled water.
6. Respect all school property and that of others.
Educational Materials
1. Two - composition notebooks
2. Two – folders (colors are optional)
3. Color pencils with eraser
4. Two packs of number 2 pencils
5. One pack of Glue sticks
Papers and class assignments for Cambridge Mathematics 1 must be…
1. Written neatly
2. Papers shall have the following heading:
● Name – John Adams (First and last name)
● Date – August 18, 2021
● Period #/ Assignment – Page number and title of assignment – Including day, A or B
Grading System: The grading system will consist of four marking periods for Cambridge
Mathematics 1. Each marking period will consist of a number of assignments given a point
value. These assignments are:
● Bell-ringers/Exit slips
● Projects
● Classwork
● Homework
● Assessments (including quizzes)
The grade portal will be updated a minimum of once a week unless an emergency situation
precludes me from a weekly update. You can find your class page via dojo using the class code
to join.
MAKE-UP POLICY FOR LATE WORK:
It is imperative that homework and projects are turned in on the required due date. If students
submit work late they may face the following:
1st day late - 10 points deducted
2nd day late – 20 points deducted
3rd day late - 30 points deducted
4th day late – Students will receive a zero

Grading Scale: Students will be evaluated in accordance with the standard Broward County
Public Schools’ grading scale.
Progress Reports: Progress Reports will be issued once every nine weeks at the midpoint of
each marking period. If a student is performing below standards, I will issue a progress report
with a letter of deficiency warning. Students will have two days to return it with a parent
signature.
Class Participation: Students are expected to participate in the classroom. Cambridge
Mathematics 1 must be taken seriously and students must work hard towards each assignment in
order to be successful. Students must participate daily in all activities. All sixth-grade students
will participate in the District Timed Math FSA.
