JET RUN-UP HANDBOOK
PREFACE

GENERAL

The B-727 Jet Run-Up Handbook has been developed exclusively by Federal Express.
It sets forth specifications, procedures, and limits for the operation of the APU and
powerplants during a ground run by maintenance personnel. The text also covers aircraft
taxiing and tower communications.

All checks, tests, and limits described are in accordance with the approved maintenance
procedures and specifications found in the B-727 Maintenance Manual. The B-727 Jet
Run-Up Handbook is a legal document (Class I Manual).

CAUTION

ENGINE RUN/TAXI TECHNICIANS MUST ENSURE QUALIFICATIONS ARE

CURRENT AND ON FILE PRIOR TO CONDUCTING ANY ENGINE RUN, TAXI, DRY
MOTORING OR WET MOTORING. TO ENSURE CURRENT QUALIFICATION
STATUS, ACCESS MTT HOMEPAGE AND SELECT INFORMATION\STATUS

ENSURE YOU ARE CURRENTLY QUALIFIED TO PERFORM THIS ACTION. IF YOU
ARE UNCERTAIN OF YOUR STATUS CONTACT YOUR MANAGER OR MTT.

ALL RUN-UP CREW MEMBERS

Each maintenance crew member performing a run-up must complete his respective
cockpit preparations. Each crew member maintains a listening watch for accuracy and
coordination and should be alert in observing engine and system operations. Any
malfunctions should be called to the attention of the crew leader. Upon his command,
actions will be initiated to correct or cope with the situation. Specific crew duties, when
called for, are detailed in a respective procedure.

REVISIONS

Revisions to the B-727 Jet Run-Up Handbook will be issued as necessary. Each manual
holder is required by FAR 121.137(b) to keep manuals current. A List of Effective Pages
is provided to enable verification that the manual is complete and pages current. If a
revision is not received, if pages are missing, or if a replacement is needed, notify
Technical Information Support (COMAIL: MEM/TN/38194-0145).

CHANGE INDICATORS

A heavy black vertical line (change bar) in the left margin identifies changed, added, or
deleted material on an existing page. An asterisk (*) before the page reference on the
List of Effective Pages (LEP) at the front of the manual identifies any page that has been
added, changed, or deleted in the current revision.

A change bar by the date indicates either a cosmetic change to that page or a change to
an adjacent page caused the rollover or rearrangement of unchanged text.

A new section or body of pages added to the manual is treated as an original issue with
no change bar.

A chapter that has undergone such extensive revision as to be completely reissued will
not have change bars.A revised table of contents page will not have change bars.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO LET US KNOW

Every effort is made to keep this manual current. However, an error cannot be corrected
unless it is known. In this regard, it is essential that the manual user do his part.
Comments, corrections, and questions regarding the manual are welcome. These should
be forwarded to Propulsion Engineering for evaluation and consideration.

FLAGS

Since many of the characteristics of the B-727-100C, and -200 are alike, this manual
contains applicable information pertinent to all B-727 aircraft. However, when an item, a
procedure, a test, or a check is different from the other aircraft, a symbol or color code
will be used to designate the difference between one aircraft and the other:

NOTE
This JRH contains data pertinent to all B-727 aircraft. Therefore, when looking up
information for a specific aircraft, ensure the correct engine model is listed on the
color-coded pages. If the information for the correct aircraft/engine combination is
not found, the engine-specific information may take precedence.
