2.2.1 Manual Release of Motor

During the operation, if the cage stops between two floors owing to any trouble of power supply or other electrical
device (such as fuse, or thermal relay of motor), under the precondition that no other method is available, it is
advised to adopt the manual brake-releasing method, which shall be implemented by duly-trained professional
personnel. The method is detailed as follows:
(1) When the drive system is equipped with only one motor, pull out the manual brake-releasing handle or rod on
end of motor slowly, so as to make the cage slide downwards slowly;
(2) When the drive system is equipped with two or more motors, please jack up one or more motor brakes with
Operation and Safety

push rod, and then manual release one motor;

The jacking-up of one or more brakes shall be carried out one by one slowly; if the cage is found sliding
downwards during the jacking-up operation, please immediately cancel the operation, so as to engage the brakes.
At this time, the possible situation is as follows:
1) After one or more brakes are jacked up, the total braking torque of remaining brakes is not enough to brake the
cage, especially when the hoist is fully loaded;
2) It is likely that some brakes among the remaining brakes have been seriously worn, or even have lost the
braking capacity.
If such situation is encountered, please change the brakes to be released and the sequence. If the following
situation is encountered, please release several brakes simultaneously. For example: the drive system is equipped
with 3 motors, and the cage slides down when the second motor is released. In such case, the operator shall
simultaneously manually release two brakes.

Figure 2.2-1 Manual Release of Motor with Brake

Note

The manual release of brake shall be carried out intermittently, so as to ensure that the cage will only slide
for a relatively short distance every time and the sliding speed will not exceed the normal speed of cage.
Once the speed limit is exceeded, the overspeed safety device will act, so as to stop the cage. In such case,
the cage may be slid down only after the overspeed safety device is reset. Whenever the cage has slid down
for 20m, stop it for 1 minute, so as to get the motor brake cooled down. When working on cage roof, please
pay attention to safety.

2.2.2 Resetting of Limit Switch

If owing to the fact that the construction hoist is heavily loaded or the motor brake is worn (with insufficient

2-6 BWM-3S Operation and Safety

Operation Manual of Construction Lifter

braking torque), the cage slides down to the position which causes the action of power limit switch, and thus the
three-phase power supply is cut off and the cage can’t be electrically moved upwards, then, please switch off the
arm rod of limit switch for a certain distance, so as to reset the limit switch and move the cage upwards.
Thereafter, re-adjust the distance of arm rod of limit switch, so as to ensure that it can effectively contact with the
stopper.
