Multivariate Calculus (Paper – XI)

FULL MARKS : 80 TIME: 3 hours


Eight question will be set out of which candidates are required to answer four questions.
Question number 1 is compulsory consist of ten short answer type questions each of two marks
covering entire syllabus uniformly.

UNIT – I
Functions of several variables, limit and continuity of functions of two variables, Partial
differentiation, total differentiability and differentiability, sufficient condition for
differentiability. Extrema of two variables, method of Lagrange multipliers. (2 questions)

UNIT – II
Double and triple integrals, change of order of integration, surface area by double integral and
Volume by triple integrals. (2 questions)

UNIT – III
The gradient, divergence and curl, Line integrals, surface integral, Green’s theorem, Stoke’s
theorem and Gauss theorem. (3 questions)

Group Theory II ( Paper – XII)

FULL MARKS : 80 TIME: 3 hours


Eight question will be set out of which candidates are required to answer four questions.
Question number 1 is compulsory consist of ten short answer type questions each of two marks
covering entire syllabus uniformly.

UNIT – I
Automorphism, inner automorphism, automorphism groups, automorphism groups of finite and
infinite cyclic groups, applications of factor groups to automorphism groups, Characteristic
subgroup, Commutator subgroup and is properties. (3 questions)

UNIT – II
Properties of external direct products, the group of units modulo n as an external direct
product, internal direct products, Fundamental Theorem of finite abelian groups. (2 questions)

Class equation and consequences, conjugacy in Sn, p-groups, Sylow’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd theorems.

DSE 1 : Linear Programming

Duality, formulation of the dual problem, primal-dual relationships. (1 questions)

Transportation problem and its mathematical formulation, northwest-corner method, lowest


cost entry method and Vogel’s approximation method for determination of staring basic
solution, optimality test, algorithm for solving transportation problem, assignment problem and
its mathematical formulation, Hungarian method for solving assignment problem.
(2 questions)

UNIT – III
Game theory: formulation of two person zero sum games, solving two person zero sum games,
games with mixed strategies, graphical procedure. (2 questions)

DSE 2 : Probability and Statistics

FULL MARKS : 80 TIME: 3 hours


Eight question will be set out of which candidates are required to answer four questions.
Question number 1 is compulsory consist of ten short answer type questions each of two marks
covering entire syllabus uniformly.

UNIT – I
Simple space, probability axioms, real random variables (discrete and continuous), cumulative
distribution function, probability mass/density function, mathematical expectation, moments,
moment generating function, characteristic function, discrete distributions: uniform, binomial,
Poisson, continuous distributions: uniform, normal, exponential.

UNIT – II
Joint commutative distribution function and is properties, joint probability density functions,
marginal and conditional distribution , expectation of function of two random variables,
conditional expectations, independent random variables, bivariate normal distribution,
correlation coefficient, rank correlation coefficient, covariance, liner regression for two
variables.

UNIT – III
Chebyshev’s inequality, statement and interpretation of (weak) law of large numbers, Central
Limit theorem for independent and identically distributed random variables with finite
