Fabric Inspection System
The inspection is done to control the quality means by examining the
products without any instrument. To examine the fabric, sewing, button,
thread, zipper, garments measurement and so on according to
specification or desired standard is called inspection. There are a number
of systems to inspect the fabric. For example, four points system, ten
points system and so on. Only Four points system is granted by AAMA
(American Apparel Manufacturers Association) and AAQC (American
Association of Quality Control) and that is why widely used for fabric
inspection and described below:
4 Points System:
In this method, defected points are found out in 100 square yds. of fabric
by inspection. The fabric must be rejected if the defected points are
greater than40.
Defects length for warp way and weft way Points
Up to 3 inches 1
3” – 6 “ 2
6” – 9” 3
Above 9” 4
Defects area for holes Points
1 “or less than 1” 2
Above 1 “ 4
Note: It must be remembered that, defected point must not be more than
4 in each yard.
Example:
For 100 squares yards inspection.
Defects length No. of faults No. of points
Up to 3 inches 10 10×1 = 10
3” – 6 “ 5 5×2 = 10
6” – 9” 2 2×3 = 6
Above 9” 0 0×4 = 0
Total = 26
Points / 100 sq. yards,
(Total points of defects*36*100) / (Total length * Width of the fabric)
(26*36*100) / (120*48)
= 16.25 (ANS)
1# Suppose a roll of 1000 yards length and 48” width of a woven fabric
is inspected and following defects are identified:
Hole 2”, loose warp 6”, hole 0.5”, broken ends 15”, oil spot 4”, loose
warp 1”, temple mark 7” double pick 4” slub 2” hole 1” miss pick 12”
broken ends 8”, hole 3”, bad selvedge 1”, oil spot 6”.
Now, find out total penalty points and the fabric is accepted or not
according to 4-point inspection system where AQL is 40?
2# Suppose a roll of 120 yards length and 46” width of a woven fabric is
inspected and following defects are identified:
Hole 2”, loose warp 7”, hole 0.5”, broken ends 1”, oil spot 2”, loose
warp 1”, temple mark 7” double pick 1” slub 2” hole 1” miss pick 7”,
broken ends 5” , hole 1”, bad selvedge 1”, oil spot 10” miss pick 7”, hole
2”.
Now, find out total penalty points and the fabric is accepted or not
according to 4-point inspection system where AQL is 40?
