1 - Huddle Leaders
Leader Tip
Huddle is a pre-service time for you to be equipped and encouraged in your ministry. Your ministry
leader will celebrate with you, lead you, and pray for you. Read the Highlight of the Week (sent in
your weekly email) to prepare for this time.
Leader Tip
As kids arrive, assign them to a Color Team—Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Purple, or Orange. Hyfi Kids
Color Teams are a great way to help kids connect with others and feel like they belong to a group.
Consider using one color per grade level (Grades 1–6). If your ministry does not need all six teams,
https://ministrygrid.lifeway.com/#/curriculum/HYFI/Kids/session/ec6f5e14-b514-4d90-b473-de28db7e5d40/issue/a4dae547-b56d-441e-97dc-0f0c3c3… 2/19

consider having leaders be teams (Older Kids Leaders and Younger Kids Leaders). Kids assigned to
those Color Teams can cheer for teammates and participate in activities together.
Use these questions to help you get to know kids as they arrive. Ministry happens best through relationships. By
spending this time with kids at the beginning, you will be able to make stronger connections as you begin teaching
about how God knows them!
What was the best part of your week?
What would be some snacks you would want to take to the beach?
If you could ride on an elephant or a giraffe, what would you choose and why?
What is your favorite way to spend a spring day?
If you could have lunch with any famous person, who would it be?
Kids will whisper a phrase into their neighbor’s ear while sitting in a circle.
Suggested Messages:
I’m so excited you're here!
I hope you have the best day ever!
This is going to be a great day!
Let’s have a lot of fun today.
I’m glad you’re on our team.
Keep It Going: Invite kids to start the message (whispering to you first so you can ensure that it is
appropriate). You may also utilize phrases with alliteration, such as “Sally Sue shoveled snow in
Stockton” or “South Dakota on Sunday.”

message for us to learn today.
Kids will create chenille stem images of themselves to put on a team “stage.”
Leader Prep: Set out supplies. Draw a simple stage on the butcher paper with curtains along the sides and top as well as
a floor. Consider providing butcher paper in team colors.

touching the hoop. Invite kids to say, “Today is the best day ever!” as they step through the
hoop.
Leader Tip

Boxes 6 per group
Leader Prep: Set the boxes on the tables with the open sides facing the audience. Create cones by rolling and taping
the construction paper. Make two “cones” in each team color.
Game Rules:
1. Invite one player from each team to the front, providing the players with a paper cone in their team color.
2. Instruct the players to stand behind the boxes and close their eyes.
3. Place the second set of paper cones in the boxes, ensuring that the audience can see.
4. Direct players, one at a time, to switch places with each other. The goal is to stand behind the box that matches
their color.
5. Inform players when they are in the correct place by saying their team color and telling them to freeze. These
players will no longer switch.
6. Time the players to see how quickly they can find the correct pattern.
I will place cones in these boxes that match your team colors, but they will be in a different pattern
than how you are standing. Your job will be to discover the pattern. One at a time, I will invite you to
change places with one of the other players. If you end up standing behind the box with your team
color, I will say your color and tell you to freeze. Once you’re in the correct position, you won’t move
again. (to the audience) Let’s cheer on the players each time they discover part of the pattern. But
don’t give anything away by pointing or nodding! (to the players) I’ll time you to see how long it
takes. Let’s see how quickly you can discover the pattern!

Cut 12-inch pieces of yarn or paracord, 4 per group. Form a knot with two strings. Use a small
table to hold the yarn and Bible.
(Hold up the knotted yarn.) Now look at these pieces of yarn. Everyone, say, “Ooo!” (Ooo!) Say “Ahh!”
(Ahh!) These pieces are tied together. In fact, they are tied in a knot so tight that I cannot separate
them. They will not easily be pulled apart because they are so tightly connected. A knot like this
would keep your shoes on for a long time!
A knot makes me think of a promise. In the Bible, promises were also called covenants. Say,
“Covenant.” (Covenant!) God made promises to people in the Bible, and His promises cannot be
easily broken or pulled apart. Just like this knot cannot be pulled apart, God’s promises cannot be
pulled apart. When God makes a promise to His people, He always keeps it. We can trust God. Say,
“I can trust in God!” (I can trust in God!) We can always trust God to follow through with what He
says He will do. God never breaks His promises.

Abram knew he could trust in God. Say, “I can trust in God!” (I can trust in God!) When God makes
a covenant, or a promise, we can trust that He will keep it. Abram knew that no matter what came
along in his journey, he could trust in God, and so can we. God is a promise keeper!
Host Script: God always keeps His promises. He even promised that one day Jesus would come
back and make all things new again. That is a pretty big promise, but why would God make that
promise? Everyone ask, “Why?” (Why?)
(Circle one) When God created the world, He created it according to His perfect design. God’s plan
was for people to know Him and have a close relationship with Him. Because God made everything,
we can trust in Him.
God promised that Abram’s family would be as big and full as the number of stars in the sky, and
that the entire world would be blessed through him. Hundreds of years later, God kept that promise
by sending Jesus, who is from the family line of Abram, who is later called Abraham. If you have
questions or want to know more about following and trusting Jesus, talk with me or your Team
Leader.
We will all experience moments when we do not have all the answers. We may not always know the
game plan, but we are made to know the One who makes the plan. We were created to know God
and have a relationship with Him. We can know God by reading the Bible, talking to Him through
prayer, and learning from other people who know Him. As we know God, we learn that we can trust
in Him. Say, “I can trust in God!” (I can trust in God!) Say, “I am meant to know God!” (I am meant
to know God!)

Great job, everyone. We are going to do this again. This time, we are going to do three jumping
jacks after each phrase.
That’s great! This Bible verse reminds us that God is in control of our lives. He will always guide us,

God keeps His promises because He is a promise keeper.

Abram trusted in God and followed God’s plan. In the unknown moments, God directed Abram

someone to be trusted. We are meant to know God, and no matter what, we can trust in Him.
Repeat after me: “I can trust in God!” (I can trust in God!) “I am meant to know God!” (I am meant

Use this time for side-by-side discovery-based learning. Kids are invited to participate and discuss,
building relationships with each other and their leader. These questions are designed to help all
kids—regardless of biblical knowledge or background—feel like they can contribute.
1. When have you, or someone else, made a promise? What was the promise, and what happened? (Allow kids to
answer, and share your own answer.)
2. Have you ever gotten yarn, string, or something else tied in a knot? If so, how did you get them untangled? Knots
cannot be broken easily. But God’s promises cannot ever be broken! What are things you can trust God with,
knowing He promises to love you and be with you? (Allow kids to answer, and share your own answer.)
3. The Bible tells us we are meant to know and trust in God. Let’s open our Bibles to Genesis 12:1-2 and read about
one of God’s amazing promises together. (Invite kids to open their Bibles. Read the passage aloud, or invite a kid
who volunteers to read the passage aloud. Be sure to have Bibles available for kids who need one. Help kids find the
passage so everyone can follow along together.) God told Abram to go to a new land, and God promised to make
Abram’s family into a great nation. How can Abram’s example help us when we are faced with something difficult
or unknown? (We can trust in God and remember that He loves us and leads us.)

4. God sent His Son, Jesus, so we could have the kind of relationship He made us for—knowing, loving, and trusting
God. What are ways we can know God and His promises? (Suggested answers include learning from the Bible,
praying, spending time with other people who know God, and so forth.)
5. The Bible tells us that we are meant to know God. That means God wants us to know Him, not just know about
Him, but have a real connection and relationship with Him. Abram knew God and trusted in Him, and we can too!
What is something you learned today? Is there anything you have questions about? (Allow kids to answer, and
share your own answer.) Let’s pray and talk to God. (Lead the group in prayer. Consider using the following prayer
prompt.)
God, thank You for sending Jesus to provide the way for us to have a relationship with You. Help us to trust You and follow
You every day, even when we don’t have all the answers. Amen.

leave his home? (He might have been nervous and excited to see what God had for him.) No matter how he felt,
Abram still trusted and obeyed God. What can we learn from Abram’s example? (Abram didn’t have all the
answers, but he trusted that God keeps His promises.)
3. When it gets hard to trust God, how can this story help encourage us? (We can remember God’s promises and
know that He is trustworthy. God kept every promise He made to Abram, and we can trust that He will keep the
promises He makes to us.)
4. If a friend asked, “How do you know you can trust God?” how could you answer? (We can trust God because He
keeps His promises. He showed us His love by promising to send Jesus. God is all-powerful and doesn’t break His
promises. He is trustworthy and always follows through.)

Life is filled with all kinds of challenges and opportunities. But no matter what is happening, we can
trust in God. Let’s start our maps by putting a red X in the middle and writing I can trust in God
underneath. Now, draw six items around your map that may be found on a treasure map (palm
trees, sand dunes, shipwrecks, and so forth). Once you draw your items, choose one of our
brainstormed ideas to write beside each item. Include a combination of both challenges and
opportunities. (Allow kids to complete this step.)
Draw a dotted line that connects all the items but ends at the X. This is a good reminder that we can
trust in God and follow Him no matter what is happening in our lives. (Allow kids to complete this
step.)
Now to really make this look like a treasure map! Tear off the edges of your map. Then, crumple and
unfold your map a few times to give it a really worn look. Finally, use a brown marker on the edges
of the map to make it look a little dirty.
Use construction paper to make foot tracings with segments of the Theme verse on them, and then put them in order.
Big Goal: Kids will work together to learn the Theme verse.
