Advanced Usage of Articles

Chúng ta tập trung vào trường hợp "the + tính từ" để chỉ một nhóm người/một khái niệm
chung.

1. The + Adjective → Nhóm Người Chỉ Tính Chất Chung

• The poor: những người nghèo

• The rich: những người giàu

• The elderly: những người cao tuổi

• The young: những người trẻ

• The unemployed: những người thất nghiệp

Khi dùng cấu trúc này, động từ được chia ở số nhiều.

Examples:

The rich tend to live in urban areas.

The unemployed are looking for new opportunities.

2. The + Nationality Adjectives → Chỉ Cả Dân Tộc/Nước

• The Vietnamese, the Chinese, the French, the Japanese, the English
Ví dụ:

The Japanese are known for their punctuality.

The Vietnamese have a rich cultural heritage.

3. The + Abstract Noun → Mang Ý Nghĩa Cụ Thể/Chuyên Biệt

• Khi muốn nhấn mạnh tính cụ thể, "the + danh từ trừu tượng" có thể xuất hiện.
Ví dụ:

The truth is, we need more time.

The reality of the situation is quite complex.

4. Zero Article Trước Một Số Danh Từ Trừu Tượng

Tuy nhiên, nếu nói chung chung (chứ không cụ thể), thì không dùng mạo từ.

Truth is often stranger than fiction.

I believe that hope is essential in life.

Part 1
Traffic
Is there anything you would like to change about the traffic in your area?
I wish my area had better public transportation because right now, most people use
their own cars or motorbikes, which makes traffic jams very common during rush
hours. I’d also love to see the traffic lights better coordinated so we don’t have to stop so
often. If these changes were made, traveling would be a lot easier.

Are there a lot of crosswalks around the place where you live?
Yes, there are quite a few crosswalks in my neighborhood, especially near schools and
shopping centers. But many drivers don’t stop for pedestrians, so you still have to be
really careful when crossing the street. Crosswalks are helpful, but they would work
better if everyone followed the rules.

Public gardens and parks

Would you prefer to play in a personal garden or public garden?
I’d rather play in a public garden because it’s larger and usually has more things to do.
Plus, I like meeting new people there, which makes the whole experience more fun.

How are the parks today different from those you visited as a kid?
Nowadays, parks are better looked after and often have new features like jogging
tracks, exercise stations, and safer playgrounds. When I was little, parks were simpler
and didn’t have as much equipment or modern designs.

What do you like to do when visiting a park?

I usually go for a walk or a run to enjoy the fresh air. After that, I like to sit on a bench to
read a book or listen to music. It helps me relax and recharge.

Would you like to play in a public garden or park?

Yes, absolutely. It’s a good way to stay active and social. I enjoy playing badminton or
throwing a frisbee around with friends. The open space and lively atmosphere make it a
great place to spend time.
Part 2
Describe a kind of foreign food you like and you have had

You should say:

What it is

When and where you had it

Why you like it

And explain how you feel about it

I’d like to talk about sushi, which is a well-known Japanese dish made with vinegared
rice and different fillings, like fish or vegetables. I first tried it about five years ago in a
Japanese restaurant in my hometown. My friend recommended it, so I decided to give it
a shot.

What caught my attention right away was the mix of tastes and textures. The rice has a
slight sweetness, the fish has a pleasant salty flavor, and when you dip it in soy sauce or
add a little wasabi, it can get a bit spicy. I also like how each piece looks so neat and
organized.

One reason I enjoy sushi so much is that it feels both tasty and somewhat healthy because
it’s made with fresh ingredients. It’s also fun to share with friends, since you can order
different types of rolls and try them all. Whenever I eat sushi, I feel happy and excited. It
has become my go-to meal whenever I crave something new and special.

Part 3
What’s the difference between Chinese food and Western food?
I think the main difference lies in the cooking methods and the base flavors. Chinese
dishes often involve stir-frying or steaming and have a mix of salty, sweet, sour, and
sometimes spicy tastes. Meanwhile, Western cuisine tends to focus on grilling, baking,
and roasting, and it often uses more dairy products like cheese and butter. On the other
hand, Chinese food usually relies on vegetables, meats, and sauces, using little to no
dairy.
Is it expensive to eat out in your country?
It can be, but it really varies depending on the type of restaurant and the city. If you go
to local eateries or street food stalls, you can usually get a meal for a low price.
However, in nicer restaurants or areas popular with tourists, prices can be much higher,
especially if they serve international cuisine.

Do you like to cook at home?

Yes, I do. I enjoy trying different recipes and it’s a great way to control what goes into
my food. Cooking also helps me relax, and I like that I can make healthier meals most of
the time.
