Postgraduate Programmes 1
1.1 Introduction to Postgraduate Academic Programmes

IIT Roorkee offers 57 full time postgraduate programmes in various disciplines of

Engineering, Architecture and Planning, Sciences, Management and Design. Details
of M.Arch. / M.Tech. / M.U.R.P. full time programmes (49 nos.) available in different
departments along with their codes, minimum educational qualifications for admission
are given in Table-1. The curriculum structure of these is given on the Institute
website: www.iitr.ac.in

The regulations in force determine the general academic requirements for the above
programmes.

The minimum duration of all academic programmes would be four semesters for Full
Time candidates and six semesters for Part-Time candidates.

1.2 Dual Degree Programme

The M.Tech./M.Arch./MURP candidates pursuing PG degree in any deptt/centre/

school of IIT Roorkee are permitted to switch over to Ph.D. Programme after 1st

Admission Categories 3
A. GATE Qualified Candidates
B. IIT Graduates
C. Golden Girl Scheme for Female Applicants

Eligibility Requirements for Admission to

M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.U.R.P. Degree Programmes 4
Indian Candidates
The candidates holding a four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent and meeting the
minimum educational qualifications as given in Table-1 are eligible to seek admission
to M.Tech./M.Arch./MURP programmes.

4. 1 GATE Qualified Candidates

Candidates of General, Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL category must have secured

at least 60% marks or CGPA of 6.00 on a 10 point scale at the qualifying degree
level; but for SC/ST/PwD category candidates, this percentage is 55% or 5.50
CGPA on a 10 point scale. The marks awarded for the qualifying degree will be
considered for eligibility.

Admission to Postgraduate programmes leading to M.Tech. / M.Arch. / M.U.R.P.

degree as given in Table-1, will be open to the candidates qualified in GATE on
the basis of valid Normalized GATE marks in the disciplines. The normalized
GATE marks of different papers will be used to prepare the merit list for
programmes of a department. These Normalized GATE marks will be
calculated by IIT Roorkee as follows:

Normalized GATE Marks Marks Out of 100

In the Paper
= Maximum Marks Awarded
X 100

in that Paper in that year

Example: Assume marks scored by the candidate is 64 out of 100 in EE Paper, where
maximum marks in EE paper of that year is, say, 92. Then normalized GATE marks of the
candidate in EE paper will be as follows:-

Normalized GATE Marks in 64

EE Paper of the candidate = X 100 = 69.57
92

4
4. 2 IIT Graduates

Direct admission without GATE will be offered to IIT graduates with a minimum
CGPA of 8.00 on a 10 point scale. Intake will be supernumerary.

4. 3 Golden Girl Scheme for Female Applicants

• Eligibility : First Rank Holder (Gold Medallist) female candidates in
qualifying degree from an IIT and/or Institute/University
within the Top 50 ranks (overall category) in the NIRF in the
most recent year.
• Relaxation : The requirement of qualifying an All India Level Exam shall
be exempted. However, all other MEQs will be applicable
as per the institute policy.
• Intake : Intake shall be supernumerary.

1. Appearing candidates in the qualifying degree will not be considered under this
scheme.
2. The first rank holder(Gold medalist) certificate must be of the qualifying degree
i.e, bachelors/master’s degree( as filled by the candidate in the application form)
subject to fulfilment of MEQ.

Note:
