Simple Present Tense
Introduction
Greetings, everyone! As we all know, simple present tense is one of the basic
tenses in English. This worksheet provides Simple Present Tense repetition
practice which include:
- Brief explanation
- Set 1. Positive sentences
(answering with correct form of verbs provided + sentences writing)
- Set 2. Negative sentences
(answering with correct form of verbs provided + sentences writing)
- Set 3. Interrogative sentences
(answering with correct form of verbs provided + sentences writing)
- Set 4. Mixed sentences
(answering with correct form of verbs provided + paragraph writing)
This paper is a follow-up material from the slides to ensure the
students’ understanding. Students need to pay attention to ‘Subject-
Verb Agreement’ in order to do this worksheet correctly.

Simple Present Tense
- Simple present tense has several uses, the two main uses are:
1. talk about facts or general truth
(For example: Sun sets in the west.)
2. talk about things that are regular or habitual
(For example: Ramizel takes a bath two times every day.)
- Besides these two, there are other uses as well, such as:
1. talk about feelings and opinions
(For example: Sophie looks splendid in that blue dress.)
2. give directions or instructions
(For example: After you leave the building, turn left right away. // You do your homework.)
3. talk about plans or schedules
(For example: The class starts at seven in the morning.)
4. talk about immediate actions
(For example: I agree with his idea.)
- Rules:
* The main verbs of positive sentences that begin with he/she/it end with -s or -es.
* The main verbs of negative and interrogative sentences use the following pair:
I / You / We / They – do or don’t
He / She / It – does or doesn’t
Pronoun + main verb Sentence example
Positive Sentence (+) I/You/We/They + sleep I sleep every night.
He/She/It + sleeps She sleeps every night.
Negative Sentence (-) I/You/We/They + don’t sleep You don’t sleep every night.
He/She/It + doesn’t sleep He doesn’t sleep every night.
Interrogative Sentence (?) Do + I/you/we/they + sleep Do we sleep every night?

* Sentences that use to be verbs are paired with the following subject pronouns:
I am // You are // We are // They are // He is // She is // It is
Pronoun + to be verb Sentence example
Positive Sentence (+) I + am I am the best.
You/We/They + are They are strong.
He/She/It + is It is scared of you.
Negative Sentence (-) I + am not I am not the best.
