Psych Unit 5

The document discusses two topics: the reliability of personality assessments through experimental methods involving randomized testing, and the author's personal experience with social stigmas related to Autism Spectrum Disorder. The author argues that labeling psychological disorders is essential for categorization and treatment identification. Without such labels, recognizing behavioral patterns and their treatments would be challenging.

Unit 5 Writing Assignment

Topic 1:

To best assess the reliability of a personality assessment, it may be best to use a form of the

experimental method. We will again presume we have a group of 100 willing participants which we

split into an experimental and control group. The experimental group is then given different variations

of a particular personality test, with the order of questions randomized each time. Their averages are

then calculated to see if results remain consistent over the repeated testing periods.

Topic 2:

I have personally experienced social stigmas before for my Autism Spectrum Disorder

diagnosis. However, I still believe these labels are necessary from a medical and psychiatric

perspective. Labeling helps to categorize and identify particular behavioral patterns associated with

different psychological disorders. Without these labels, identifying these patterns, and their associated

treatments, may become significantly more difficult.
