Annotated Bibliography Draft

For this essay, I have elected to cover the history and popularization of tabletop games. I'd like

to cover them from their origin in Prussian military academies of the 18 th century to the post-covid

explosion of popularity in both wargames and tabletop roleplaying games. Many people, including

many tabletop gamers, believe that the origin of the hobby lay in the British miniature and pen-and-

paper gaming scene of the 1980's. The truth is, however, that wargaming and rolplaying games go back

farther than many know.

I'm hoping to find some solid sources in the college's library database. I've also elected to try

asking some people I know if they might have some good reading as a topic. Likewise, magazines and

sites dedicated to hobbying may be a good source of information, and if I'm able to find an archive of

these magazines, or some copies from older hobbyists, I might be able to utilize these sources for my

research.
