WORKSHEET
Grade : 7
Echoes of Silence
The rain fell steadily outside, tapping softly against the foggy windowpane. In the
dim glow of the evening, Sarah sat curled up in the corner of her small apartment,
the hum of the city beneath her barely reaching her ears. Completely alone, she
traced invisible patterns on the frosted glass with the tip of her finger. Her heart
ached in a way that words could never fully express. Why did it always feel like this
— like the world was spinning around her while she remained frozen in place?
Her phone lay silent beside her, the screen dark and cold. Messages left
unanswered. Invitations ignored. She told herself it was better this way — better not
to risk the sting of rejection. Yet, deep down, she knew the truth. The silence wasn’t
protection; it was a cage. Slowly and painfully, it had wrapped itself around her,
squeezing the breath from her chest. Why was it so hard to reach out? Why did the
idea of opening herself up to someone else feel like standing on the edge of a cliff,
staring into the endless abyss below?
A sigh escaped her lips as she pressed her forehead against the cool glass. Outside,
blurred city lights stretched into the distance, glittering like scattered stars. But even
among the countless lights, she still felt like a single flicker in an endless sea of
darkness. The loneliness wasn’t just the absence of people — it was the aching
emptiness that settled into her bones, lingering long after the last goodbye.
Her thoughts drifted back to her childhood, to the sound of her mother’s laughter and
the warmth of her father’s hand as he guided her across the street. Back then, love
had seemed effortless. Now, it felt like a distant echo, a faint shadow of something
she could no longer touch. How had it come to this? How had she drifted so far from
the warmth of connection?
The rain softened, misting the glass as the night deepened. A single tear slipped
down her cheek, mingling with the chill of the windowpane. Somewhere beneath the
quiet hum of the city, life continued — bustling and bright. But here, in the stillness of
her room, Sarah remained — a lone figure caught in the quiet storm of her own heart.
