Volvo B8R/B13R Electrical System Guide
Volvo B8R/B13R Electrical System Guide
1 Introduction
This BBI describes the chassis to body electrical interface. It deals with the fol-
lowing main areas;
– “Precautionary measures” in page 2
– “Relays for body functions - general requirements” in page 3
– “Electronic Control Units (ECUs)” in page 3
– “Body builder connectors, inputs and outputs” in page 6
– “Electrical distribution unit and fuse boxes” in page 13
– “Function description” in page 27
– “Lighting” in page 62
The ECU communicate via both a fast control link J1939 and a slower informa-
tion link J1708/1587. Control signals are transmitted on the fast link, and infor-
mation and diagnostic signals are transmitted on the slow link.
The data links are recognized as twisted pair conductors.
ATTENTION!
• BBIs may be updated without prior notice.
• Use the BBI on the BBI website.
• Information on models/versions no longer in production can be found
in Historical documents on the BBI website.
• Country-specific safety rules and guidelines have higher prefer-
ence over the manufacturer specification if there is regulatory
conflicts.

The function can be disabled by means of an override switch (OS), see figure
54, designed to open the circuit to XCB803F:16 in its OFF position.
ATTENTION! The override function will not work if there is a “Bus hold
brake” request on the E-CAN between body and chassis, refer to BBI 3-0-
95 for further information.
If this design guideline is followed, this function will light the “Door Failure”

All of the following criteria have to be complied with to activate the “Bus
hold brake”:
• “Bus hold brake requested” (via connector XCB801F:33 or via data
link from Volvo's multiplex body system), see figure 54 and 55.
• Engine running
• Vehicle speed < 5 km/h
• Enough air pressure (above level for low pressure warning)
The “Bus hold brake” is deactivated if the following criteria are complied
with:
• “Bus hold brake” not requested
• Gearbox in drive position
• Accelerator pedal moved from idling position
The “Bus hold brake” is also deactivated at:
• Ignition Off
CAUTION! The bus can start to roll when the ignition is
switched off.
In some markets, the “Bus hold brake” is deactivated by
!
pressing and releasing the brake pedal (applies to variant
DBRAKEBD, only).
