IELTS Speaking Test: Leisure Time

Part 1: Introduction & Interview (Transportation)

Q: Do you often use public transport?

A: Yes, I take the bus or metro almost daily. It's a real lifesaver, especially during rush hour when driving is

just asking for a headache.

Q: What kind of transport do you prefer?

A: I'm partial to trains-they're punctual, spacious, and let me kick back with a podcast or book. Compared to

the hustle and bustle of city traffic, it's a breath of fresh air.

Q: Is public transport convenient in your city?

A: It's getting there. While there's still room for improvement, the government has stepped up efforts to

modernize the system. Buses now run more frequently and cover more ground.

Q: Have your travel habits changed over time?

A: Definitely. I used to rely heavily on taxis, but now I've shifted gears to more eco-friendly options like cycling

and carpooling. It's better for my wallet and the planet.

Part 2: Long Turn (Cue Card)

- And explain how you felt about the journey

Sample Answer:

Last summer, I took a road trip with three close friends to a coastal town about five hours from the city. We

rented a car for the journey, hit the road early in the morning, and made several pit stops along the way to

soak in the scenery and grab snacks.

It was a spontaneous trip, but everything fell into place. I was riding shotgun, DJ-ing the entire way, while the

others took turns driving. The car was packed to the brim, and we were all in high spirits-cracking jokes,

singing along to songs, and reminiscing about school days.

What made the journey special wasn't just the destination but the company and the sense of freedom that

came with hitting the open road. It was truly a ride to remember.

Part 3: Discussion (Transportation)

Q: What are the advantages of using public transportation?

A: It's cost-effective, reduces one's carbon footprint, and eases traffic congestion. Plus, it gives people a

chance to catch up on reading or simply zone out-something you can't do behind the wheel.

Q: Why do many people prefer driving their own cars?

A: For many, it's about control and comfort. You don't have to rely on a timetable or squeeze into packed

buses. It's your own bubble of peace, especially after a long day.

Q: How can governments encourage people to use public transport more often?

A: They can offer incentives like discounted fares, invest in cleaner and more efficient fleets, and ensure the

system is safe and reliable. If the service is top-notch, people will naturally hop on board.

Q: Do you think transportation will change much in the future?

A: Absolutely. With the rise of electric vehicles, self-driving technology, and smarter infrastructure, we're

heading towards a greener and more streamlined commuting experience. The daily grind might not be so

grindy after all.
