Aspen Exchanger Design and Rating software allows you to create a new model
by clicking File New or restart from an existing model by navigating to the
file using the Open or recently opened cases associated with
the Recent command.
For a new model, click New select Plate Exchanger (Plate) and
click Create to start modeling a new exchanger.
               2. Choose the desired unit from the Set Units drop-down for
each unit field. In this example, please set to the SI units.
Tip: EDR allows you to set default Units of Measure. This can be
accomplished from File | Options | General.
In the Design mode, the program calculates the size of the exchanger, number
of exchanger, plate configuration and number of plates for specified process
equipment. The Run Mode group allows you to set the appropriate calculation
mode.
The Process Data form will display. Alternatively you can use the EDR
Navigator to navigate to the Process Data form.
The process data for this exercise is listed in the following table:
Use this information to complete the Process Data tab information. Please note
that you need to change the unit of Mass flow rate (total) to kg/h.
Property data is supplied at two temperature points, hot stream and cold
stream.
Complete the Physical Property Data, Composition information for the hot
side fluid. On the Composition tab, by default, User specified properties is
selected as the Physical property package.
Use the EDR Navigator to navigate to Input | Physical Property Data | Hot
Stream (1) Properties, and then enter the data provided below on
the Properties tab.
       Property Units 1 2
       Temperature C 213 168
       Liquid density kg/m3 879.4 909.8
       Liquid specific heat kJ/(kg*K) 2.34 2.18
       Liquid viscosity mPa*s 1.94 3.37
       Liquid thermal cond. W/(m*K) 0.1 0.107
By default, two pressure levels are available. In this example data of only one
pressure level is to be entered. To delete the extra pressure level, highlight the
second pressure level in the Pressures column and click Delete Set.
Note: The Overwrite Properties check box is selected when directly inputting
 properties.
Define cold stream data by going to the EDR Navigator and clicking Input |
Physical Property Data | Cold Stream (2) Compositions. On the
Compositions tab, use the drop-down to specify the Physical property
package.
Select the Aspen Properties databank as the Physical property package, and
then click Search Databank at the bottom of the grid.
The Find Components dialog box appears. In this example, you need to
add Water.
Type in the first few letters of the required fluid in the Name or Alias field.
Matching components appear in the grid. Highlight desired components from
the list, and click Add selected compounds to add the selection to
the Selected Components list. Confirm the selection by clicking Use Selected
Compounds.
Define cold stream properties by going to the EDR Navigator and clicking Input
| Physical Property Data | Cold Stream Properties. On the Properties tab,
click Get Properties to have the system calculate the properties of water at the
default pressure and temperature range. The property table will be populated
with data across a number of points that will be used when the calculation is
run.
Once all required data has been entered, it is important to save the dataset.
Do so by going to File | Save As. Once saved, run your case by clicking or
pressing F5. This is a design case. Running the case calculates the Exchanger
Geometry which can be found on the EDR Navigator tree under Input.
Tip: EDR allows you to automatically save your work at defined time intervals.
Go to File | Options | General to view save options.
The Results section on the EDR Navigator becomes available after the run is
complete.
Note: On the Applications Options form, the Calculation mode will now be
 set to Rating / Checking.
Save the dataset by going to File | Save As. Once saved, run your case by
clicking or pressing F5.
The program will calculate Heat Transfer information which can be found
under Results | Thermal/Hydraulic Summary. This information is used to
calculate the duty and area ratio. The Area Ratio will allow you to determine
whether the exchanger is oversized or undersized for the given process
conditions.
Different summaries and details can be viewed under the Results node on the
EDR Navigator.

Here's what some of our previous clients have said about the impact of our
training programs.
I took the Process Design Engineering (ENG 101) after finishing the Aspen
Hysys Basic class. During this half-month class I got and learnt a lot of very
useful and practical knowledge about the oil &gas process design and
simulation. The module materials are very informative and well organized
which make me very easy to understand. Also thanks a lot to my instructor
Jenny for her patience to answer any doubts I have during the class.
Furthermore the supplementary material for each module is very helpful to
give me more detailed information about each module content. In general I
am very satisfied and comfortable with this class and it is beyond my
expectation.
HYSYS offered here is a Great course for new engineers and great refresher
for the experienced people.....Do it if you are looking for Value for your
Money!!

My co-worker and I took the Process Simulation & Modeling Aspen Hysys
Advance course. It was a very useful and interesting course, and the
instructors were very flexible to adapt the topics and schedules according to
our needs.

It was really good experience of online learning of HYSYS. Classes were fully
interactive with enough time for clarifications. It is a good opportunity for
working professionals as essay to manage classes, learning at the same time
to practice on real cases.
