Essential Guitar Barre Chord Lessons & Charts

In this book you’ll learn over 35 different Barre chords needed for playing many
different styles of music on guitar. Along with the handy, full color illustration
included in each lesson, you’ll also be walked through the procedure of proper
chord placement for ease of reference when making and learning these essential
Barre chords.

Of the Barre chords and power chords included in this manual, you’ll find that
you’ll use many of them quite often, while others you may rarely or never use.
This all depends on your style of playing and the music genre for which you
play.

The first thing you’ll want to do before we get started is to tune up.

1. A Barre Chord

To properly make the A Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the 5th
fret. Next, place your second finger on the G string on the 6th fret and then your
third finger on the A string on the 7th fret. Finally, place your fourth finger on the
D string on the 7th fret.

When making the A Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the high e string.
2. A Barre Chord

To properly make the A Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the 5th
fret. Next, place your third finger on the G string on the 6th fret and then your
fourth finger on the D string on the 7th fret.

When making the A Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
3. Am Barre Chord

To properly make the Am Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
5th fret. Next, place your second finger on the A string on the 7th fret and then
your third finger on the D string on the 7th fret. When some people play the Am
Barre Chord, they sometimes Barre their third finger across the A and D strings
on the 7th fret instead of using their second and third finger.

When making the Am Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
4. Am6 Barre Chord

To properly make the Am6 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across
the G, B & E strings on the 5th fret. Next, place your second finger on the A
string on the 7th fret and then your third finger on the D string on the 7th fret.
Finally, place your fourth finger on the B string on the 7th fret.

When making the Am6 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings
except for the low e string.
5. Am7 Barre Chord

To properly make the Am7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across
the D, G, B & E strings on the 5th fret. Next, place your third finger on the A
string on the 7th fret and then your fourth finger on the B string on the 8th fret.

When making the Am7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
6. Am7 Barre Chord

To properly make the Am7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across
the D, G, B & E strings on the 5th fret. Next, place your third finger on the A
string on the 7th fret.

When making the Am7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
7. A6 Barre Chord

To properly make the A6 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
D, G, B & E strings on the 2nd fret.

When making the A6 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the low e string.
8. A7 Barre Chord

To properly make the A7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
5th fret. Next, place your second finger on the G string on the 6th fret and then
your third finger on the A string on the 7th fret.

When making the A7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
9. A7 Barre Chord

To properly make the A7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
D, G & B strings on the 2nd fret. Next, place your second finger on the E string
on the 3rd fret.

When making the A7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
10. A7 Barre Chord

To properly make the A7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
5th fret. Next, place your second finger on the G string on the 6th fret and then
your third finger on the A string on the 7th fret.

When making the A7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the high e string.
11. B Barre Chord

To properly make the B Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
bottom 5 strings (A through high E) on the 2nd fret. Next, Barre your third finger
on the D, G & B strings on the 4th fret.

When making the B Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the high e string.
12. Bm Barre Chord

To properly make the Bm Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
A, D, G, B & E strings on the 2nd fret. Next, place your second finger on the B
string on the 3rd fret and then your third finger on the D string on the 4th fret.
Finally, place your fourth finger on the G string on the 4th fret.

When making the Bm Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the low e string.
13. Bm Barre Chord

To properly make the Bm Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
A, D, G, B & E strings on the 2nd fret. Next, place your second finger on the D
string on the 3rd fret and then your third finger on the G string on the 3rd fret.
Finally, place your fourth finger on the B string on the 3rd fret. You may find that
it is easier to Barre your second or third fingers across the D, G & B strings on
the 3rd fret instead of using your second, third and fourth fingers as outlined
above.

When making the Bm Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the low e string.
14. B7 Barre Chord

To properly make the B7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
A, D, G, B & E strings on the 2nd fret. Next, place your third finger on the D
string on the 4th fret and then your fourth finger on the B string on the 4th fret.

When making the B7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the low e string.
15. C Barre Chord

To properly make the C Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the 8th
fret. Next, place your second finger on the G string on the 9th fret and then your
third finger on the D string on the 10th fret.

When making the C Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
16. C Barre Chord

To properly make the C Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the D,
G, B & E strings on the 5th fret. Next, place your fourth finger on the E string on
the 8th fret.

When making the C Barre Chord, you’ll generally play only the D, G, B & E
strings. The 6th E and the 5th A strings aren’t played.
17. C Barre Chord

To properly make the C Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the A,
D, G, B & E strings on the 3rd fret. Next, Barre your third finger across the D, G
& B strings on the 5th fret.

When making the C Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the low e string.
18. C7 Barre Chord

To properly make the C7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
D, G, B & E strings on the 5th fret. Next, place your third or fourth finger on the
E string on the 6th fret.

When making the C7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play only the D, G, B & E
strings. The 6th E and the 5th A strings aren’t played.
19. C7 Barre Chord

To properly make the C7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
A, D, G, B & E strings on the 3rd fret. Next, place your third finger on the D
string on the 5th fret and then your fourth finger on the B string on the 5th fret.

When making the C7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play only the D, G, B & E
strings. The 6th E and the 1st E strings aren’t played.
20. Cm Barre Chord

To properly make the Cm Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
8th fret. Next, place your second finger on the E string on the 10th fret and then
your third finger on the A string on the 10th fret. You may find it easier to Barre
your third finger across the E and A strings on the 10th fret.

When making the Cm Barre Chord, you’ll generally play only the E, A, D & G
strings. The 2nd B string and the 1st E string aren’t played.
21. D Barre Chord

To properly make the D Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
10th fret. Next, place your second finger on the G string on the 11th fret and then
your third finger on the A string on the 12th fret. Now, place your fourth finger on
the D string on the 12th fret.

When making the D Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the high e string.
22. Dm7 Barre Chord

To properly make the Dm7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across
the G, B & E strings on the 2nd fret.

When making the Dm7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally all of the strings except for
the low e string.
23. Dm Barre Chord

To properly make the Dm Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
10th fret. Next, place your second finger on the A string on the 12th fret and then
your third finger on the D string on the 12th fret.

When making the Dm Barre Chord, you’ll generally play only the E, A, D & G
strings. The 2nd B string and the 1st E string aren’t played.
24. D7 Barre Chord

To properly make the D7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
10th fret. Next, place your second finger on the G string on the 11th fret and then
your third finger on the A string on the 12th fret.

When making the D7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the high e string.
25. E Barre Chord

To properly make the E Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the D,
G, B & E strings across the 9th fret. Next, place your fourth finger on the E string
on the 12th fret.

When making the E Barre Chord, you’ll generally play the low E string,
skipping the A string and then playing the rest of the strings D through high E.
26. E Barre Chord

To properly make the E Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the A,
D, G, B & E strings across the 7th fret. Next, Barre your third finger across the D,
G & B strings on the 9th fret.

When making the E Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
27. Em Barre Chord

To properly make the Em Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across A,
D, G, B & E strings across the 7th fret. Next, place your second finger on the B
string on the 8th fret and then your third finger on the D string on the 9th fret.
Finally, place your fourth finger on the G string on the 9th fret.

When making the Em Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
28. E7 Barre Chord

To properly make the E7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
D, G, B & E strings across the 9th fret. Next, place your fourth finger on the E
string on the 10th fret.

When making the E7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play the low E string,
skipping the A string and then playing the rest of the strings D through high E.
29. E7 Barre Chord

To properly make the E7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
A, D, G, B & E strings across the 7th fret. Next, place second finger on the D
string on the 9th fret and your third finger on the B string on the 9th fret.

When making the E7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
30. F Barre Chord

To properly make the F Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
first fret. Next, place your second finger on the G string on the 2nd fret and your
third finger on the A string on the 3rd fret. Finally, place your fourth finger on the
D string on the 3rd fret.

When making the F Barre Chord, you’ll generally all of the strings except for the
high e string.
31. Fm Barre Chord

To properly make the Fm Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across the
1st fret. Next, place your third finger on the A string on the 3rd fret and your
fourth finger on the D string on the 3rd fret.

When making the Fm Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
32. F7 Barre Chord

To properly make the F7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across all of
the strings on the 1st fret. Next, place your second finger on the G string on the
2nd fret and your third finger on the A string on the 3rd fret.

When making the F7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the 2nd B string and the 1st E string.
33. G Barre Chord

To properly make the G Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across all of
the strings across the 3rd fret. Next, place your second finger on the G string on
the 4th fret and your third finger on the A string on the 5th fret. Finally, place your
fourth finger on the D string on the 5th fret.

When making the G Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings.
34. G7 Barre Chord

To properly make the G7 Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across all
of the strings on the 3rd fret. Next place your second finger on the G string on the
4th fret and your third finger on the A string on the 5th fret.

When making the G7 Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the high e string.
35. Gm Barre Chord

To properly make the Gm Barre Chord, simply Barre your first finger across all
of the strings on the 3rd fret. Next, place your third finger on the A string on the
5th fret and your fourth finger on the D string on the 5th fret.

When making the Gm Barre Chord, you’ll generally play all of the strings except
for the 2nd B string and the 1st E string.
Footnotes

I couldn’t leave you without a great way to reference how the guitar strings are
identified from one through six and high e through low e.

You’ll notice the “E6”, “A5” and so on and so fourth. The E indicates the E
string and the 6 indicates that it is the 6th string on the guitar. You’ll also notice a
thick line underneath the “E6” and how the lines get thinner as you move
towards the 1st string which is indicated by the “E1”.
