Abstract
This paper examines the reality of economic development in Algeria, which defined two
different strategies characterized by two periods of life of the Algerian Republic, depending on
the nature of the economic and political orientation that followed. The first strategy was based
on planning and manufacturing. This period is limited from independence to Algeria abandons
the socialist system and the model of guiding economy in which the state is the main actor. The
second development strategy is the one followed by Algeria from the years 1990 until today,
which was characterized by the direction of public policies towards the transition to the
economy. With the application of the policies of structural adjustments and abandon the state for
many roles in favor of the private sector, which could not be an effective agent, which has
necessitated a strong presence of the state with the developmental programs that came 2000
years ago.
